Since he debuted on America's Got Talent season 17, Drake Milligan's career in country music has soared. But last night, fans got upset after seeing him lose out on a major career achievement at the 2023 CMT Music Awards.

Ahead of this year's ceremony, the country singer walked the red carpet in attendance. Drake was up for the Breakthrough Male Video of the Year award for his song "Sounds Like Something I'd Do," his original single he auditioned with on the NBC competition shows. To celebrate the exciting nomination, Drake posted a video of his green carpet arrival on Instagram in anticipation for potentially winning the big title.

Sadly for Drake and his fans, the award wasn't his to win that night. Singer and songwriter Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, beat him out for the honor with the video for his song "Son of a Sinner."

While many were excited about Jelly Roll receiving the award, Drake's followers couldn't help but be upset over the surprise turn of events. What's more, they went back to the Dallas/Fort Worth artist's original Instagram post and let him know how they felt about him losing.

"You should have won that award tonight! You deserved it. I’ll be voting for you again next year. You’re still a winner to me! ❤️," one person wrote in the comments section. "Keep your chin up!! It's going to be you soon!! 👏 Congrats on being nominated!! Such [an] honor!! 🎉," another added. "As far as I'm concerned, you won! You're the best!" a different follower said.

While Drake didn't necessarily take home a trophy, he shared in a later Instagram how thrilled he was to be invited to the CMT Music Awards. Aside from celebrating the best in country music, he's got nothing to worry about. The Sun Records alum is heading out on tour this spring, performing in nine cities between late March and early May.

As for Jelly Roll, the CMT Music Awards was a memorable event for him. He managed to clinch three wins throughout the evening, including Male Video of the Year and CMT Digital-First Performance of the Year. Viewers also got to witness Jelly Roll's unique presence in the country music scene later, thanks to a live performance of his new single "Need a Favor."
