After a whooping 15 years of America's Got Talent, NBC took the popular competition show and made it a bit more dangerous. This past January, America's Got Talent: Extreme caught everyone's attention with heart-pumping acts. But since AGT: Extreme crowned its first winner, there has been no word about its return.

ICYMI: The NBC spinoff is similar to its predecessor. Contestants perform memorable stunts in front of judges Simon Cowell, WWE star Nikki Bella and motorsports racer Travis Pastrana in the hopes of winning a $500,000 prize. The major difference between AGT and AGT: Extreme is the intensity of acts, with the latter often needing larger sets.

But after the show aired its season 1 finale on March 29, fans have been wondering the status of the reality competition series. More specifically, many want to know whether or not America's Got Talent: Extreme got canceled.

Is America's Got Talent: Extreme canceled?

As of right now, NBC has not announced if America's Got Talent: Extreme is officially canceled. Back in May, Deadline reported that AGT would be returning for season 17 (currently airing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays) but "AGT: Extreme did not make it into NBC’s schedule."

More recently, in August, sources told The Sun that Simon is "now focused on other projects." A different source explained to the outlet: "Simon is constantly looking at ways to revamp his shows. And AGT: Extreme had a number of difficulties."

Now, nearing the end of the year, it sounds like new seasons of America's Got Talent: Extreme are still on hold.

As for why there are no future plans for AGT: Extreme, a few reasons could be behind why it's not moving forward. The first — contestants have gotten hurt while filming the show. In October 2021, America's Got Talent: Extreme paused production after an act with stuntman Jonathan Goodwin didn't go as planned.

At the time, TMZ reported he got stuck between two cars while in the air during rehearsal, causing a rigged explosive to go off. He then fell 40 feet, missed an airbag and landed on his head. Thankfully, Jonathan has made a recovery.

Another thought as to why the show isn't moving forward — the AGT judges have demanding schedules. Simon is busy working on season 17 of America's Got Talent while planning a wedding with fiancée Lauren Silverman. He also oversees his own music production company, Syco Entertainment, and continues to take care of his health after enduring two bike accidents in recent years.

In Nikki's case, she's balancing work and motherhood. Apart from planning her wedding to Dancing With the Stars pro Artem Chigvintsev, the Total Bellas star is also gearing up for her new celebrity game show, Barmageddon, with Voice personalities Blake Shelton and Carson Daly. What's more, Nikki also has a podcast with her twin sister Brie Bella.

As for Travis, he continues to perform motor stunts across the country. He also works on his own motortrack, Pastranaland. In addition, he recently hosted the 2022 Pastranaland Pit Bike Championship and released a new merchandise line.
