What advice do you have for graduates? The Courier Journal wants to know.

I was not the best student in high school. I had teachers who believed in me, but when it came to looking at my GPA, all of the good they saw in me could not be found. My efforts did not look good on paper. It's easy for students to feel tripped up by their portfolio and what it means for their futures.

Chuck Keller, my then English teacher and mentor got me through the hard days when I thought I wasn't good enough. He told me, “Your success in high school does not determine your success in life.” These were exactly the words I needed to hear and he was right. Even now, I'm grateful for his encouragement and advice. It carried me through.
