Adult Swim has confirmed that Rick and Morty will be recasting a new voice actor for Season 7 to replace co-creator Justin Roiland in his role as both the intergalactic duo and various side characters.

In the wake of domestic battery and false imprisonment charges filed upon Roiland, Adult Swim and several other projects associated with the filmmaker cut ties with him. While all charges have now been dismissed, Roiland will still be removed as a voice actor for the Rick and Morty franchise.

During the Annecy International Festival in France, executive producer Steve Levy and Cartoon Network president Michael Ouweleen both commented on the changes. Levy noted that he doubts anyone will notice the new voices while Ouweleen compared the switch to the transitions in Bugs Bunny voice actors over the decades.

“I love what Jeff Bennett has done with [Bugs Bunny]. But it’s not Mel Blanc, and yet we recognize the character!” said Ouweleen.

Season 7 of Rick and Morty as well as a special anime project are set to release later this year. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
