Adult film actress Jesse Jane was found dead on Wednesday when police responded to a wellness check at a home in Moore, OK. She was 43 at the time of her death.

Authorities discovered Jane alongside her boyfriend Brett Hasenmueller, also deceased, whose employer had reportedly placed the wellness check after he hadn't been heard from after several days.

According law enforcement sources who spoke with TMZ, the Jane and Hasenmueller's deaths are currently being investigated as a likely drug overdose. However, it's unclear how long the couple had been in the home before their bodies were discovered, and an exact cause of death has yet to be determined. Pending an investigation, a medical examiner will make the final ruling.

Jane, who was born Cindy Howell, was once one of the most famous porn stars in the business. After signing an exclusive contract with the adult film production company Digital Playground in 2002, Jane went on to make appearances on the Showtime porn industry docuseries Family Business. She also hosted several adult industry awards throughout her career including the AVN Awards twice in 2006 and 2013.

Of the many well-known adult films and adult film series Jane appeared in over the years, she perhaps most famously starred in Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge, which is considered one of the most expensive pornos ever made at a reported cost of around $8 million. Her non-adult entertainment appearances included a cameo in 2004's Starsky & Hutch, a guest starring role on Entourage, and an appearance on The Bad Girls Club in 2009.

In 2010, Jane launched a successful line of signature sex toys, as she planned out the next stage of her career. "I figure I'm going to do [porn] for four or five more years and then quit," she told CNBC at the time. "I've been pretty good with my money. … My focus is save, save, save. After this, I'd like to maybe open my own business—and have enough saved that even if that didn't go right, I'd be OK."

Jane is survived by one son, who was born in 2000.
