Adorable Piglet Up For Adoption After Being Found Wandering the Streets of Philadelphia

When it comes to people who love animals, their generosity and selflessness knows no bounds. Whether it's a kitten foster who takes in an extra mouth to feed or an equine rescuer who goes broke buying a rescue horse at auction, there are an endless number of ways that someone can step up for animals in need. Just think of how many people volunteer with and donate to animal rescue groups and shelters!

One Pennsylvania animal shelter is proved that love knows no species as soon as they met a tiny rescue piglet named Snoop Hogg. The little porker was found wandering the streets of Philadelphia and was originally rescued by a shelter in the city, but he's found a new lease on life at The Sanctuary at Haafsville. As much as he's bonded with the shelter staff, though, he needs a dedicated permanent home where he can reach his full potential. After all, this adventurous piglet is just a baby; he's got his whole life--and a lot of growing--ahead of him!

Aww! This rescue piggy is such a cutie pie, and it seems like he's stolen the hearts of his rescuers. It warms my heart to hear that he's so affectionate with his heroes, especially considering he'd already suffered a lot at the hands of humans. It's amazing he trusts them already! He arrived at the first animal shelter in terrible condition, and their best guess is that he was used as bait for dog fighting. Luckily, his story has changed for the better.

But it's time to make that change permanent! As The Sanctuary at Haffsville explains on their website's adoption spotlight, Snoop H-O-double G visited the vet to be "vaccinated, neutered and medicated for mange." Now that he's feeling better now, he's actually become the temporary pet pig for the shelter's office! A local baseball team, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, actually covered the cost of his vet bills when they learned about his story, so this animal rescue really was a team effort.

What to Expect When Adopting a Pig

It's important to remember that Snoop is a baby pot-bellied pig--not a 'mini pig.' In fact, no such things exist! This little guy could weigh over 100 pounds when fully grown, so he'll need an owner who's dedicated to him at every size. Adopting a pot-bellied pig can be joyful and life-changing, but you also have to be prepared! The good news is that he's doing well on potty training and harness training, so he'll be excellent to have around no matter how big he gets. After all, manners are important--even if you're practically a celebrity!
