LAURA CLARK: Hi I'm Laura. And welcome to another episode of "In The Know Live-- Parenting." November is Native American Heritage Month. And as an enrolled citizen of the Muskogee Creek and Cherokee tribes, I am thrilled to be spotlighting some Native owned businesses that feature super cool products for kids that they will love and they will look adorable in too. First up, we have Thunder Kids Hat Company. Thunder Kids Hat Company is an offshoot of Thunder Voice Hat Company, which is for adults. And it was created to bring representation, inclusion, and visibility to the apparel industry. They have really cool Native-made goods for little ones.

And each of these hats is reclaimed, which means they purchase old and wanted hats and clean them and reshape them and give them a new artistic design. You'll see that they have super cool designs like stitching and little ears for kids, which is super adorable. The price point begins at $275, which, admittedly, is a lot of money, I get it. But it's also a really amazing keepsake product that is unique and something you can pass down to younger kids once your older kids outgrow the beautiful hats.

The owner of Thunder Voice Hat Company and Thunder Kids Hat Company, Thunder Voice Eagle had this amazing, amazing contribution to what his design inspiration is for this. And what he shared with "In the Know" was, "My mother taught me about my belonging place. She taught me that as I grow up and learn about the world and who I am, I will never be lost. I have a belonging place with my people. I always have a home and I always have a family.

As my nieces and nephew grow up, it has been difficult to find children's clothing, books, toys, shoes, et cetera that includes Natives. With the help of my nieces and nephew, the Thunder Voice Hat Company team created Thunder Kids, a solution for more visibility to help build their self-esteem and their native identity and proudly remember their belonging place." So with that super cool design inspiration in mind, just know that you are getting something special with each of these hats.

Next up, we have Urban Native Era t-shirts. These cool t-shirts say, "You are on Native land." They come in the color black. And they start at sizes three to six months. And they go up to big kids and adults. And they're $14.99. This is a cute t-shirt with a message that reminds all of us, Natives and non-Natives alike, that we're standing on land that originated with Native peoples.

So I'm joining you from Los Angeles, the homeland of the Tongva people, which I am looking to teach my kids about right now. And it was actually, another parent recommended this to me. And they said, you know, wherever you are in the United States, wherever you are in the world, it's a good idea to teach your kids about the ancestral homelands of the tribes that have lived here, who still live here, just so they know where this land originated. And that comes up in this t-shirt.

Next, we have The Natives, which is this adorable warrior-in-training onesie that's also available in toddler sizes, sizes newborn to 4T. It comes in red, pink, and plum. And it sells for $16. According to The Natives website, the company was started by "two Native American guys trying to fill a hole in the market that is missing the voice of the people. Our mission is to teach the youth the importance of embracing culture and history while building a Native American clothing company."

So one question that has come up a lot along with these brands is, is it OK for non-Indigenous people to wear these brands? And overall, for each of them, for The Natives, for Urban Native Era, for Thunder Kids Hat Company, the answer is a resounding all caps yes. All of this clothing is Native-owned. And it's for people, Natives and non-Natives alike, who are wearing it in solidarity and want to make space for Indigenous people in their lives. And it's also to remind people out there, Natives and non-Natives alike, like I said, that Native design is still here and to buy authentic Native-made designs as opposed to knock off Indigenous art that you can find elsewhere.

So thank you for tuning in today. Please check out these fabulous brands. They have such unique designs. And they're great for kids. And they even have products for adults. So the whole family can wear these amazing products. So thank you for joining us today. See you next time. Please check back on Tuesdays at 10:00 AM Pacific and 1:00 PM Eastern for more "In The Know Live-- Parenting." See you next time.
