Adidas Pays Homage to Cancer Research Activist Terry Fox — Here’s How to Get His Shoes

Forty years after the late humanitarian Terry Fox embarked on his “Marathon of Hope” across Canada, Adidas is honoring the runner with a collection with benefits going to The Terry Fox Foundation to support cancer research.

The collection, which is available on the brand’s Canadian e-commerce platform, consists of several T-shirts with quotes from Fox as well as one with an image of the cancer research activist during his run. The quotes featured on the white shirts in blue and red writing include “The Answer Is to Try and Help Others,’ “Dreams Are Made if People Try” and “Somewhere the Hurting Must Stop.” Youth sizing for the shirts is CA$35 and adult sizes are CA$40.

Although there are sizes available now, the T-shirts are exclusive to shoppers in Canada.

The runner’s Adidas Orion shoes, however, aren’t available on the brand’s website. Having released in May, they have long sold out. But you can pick them up on the resale market.

On StockX, for instance, the lowest asking price at time of publication for the Adidas Orion Terry Fox “40th Anniversary” is $151 with a high bid of $195. And on GOAT, the shoes start at $150 and the highest price is $300.

Fox — who had one leg amputated due to cancer — started his “Marathon of Hope” on April 12, 1980, to raise money for research of the disease. Although his goal was to run across Canada, the cancer had spread to his lungs and on Sept. 1, 1980, he had to stop. (His run spanned 3,339 miles over 143 days.)

According to The Terry Fox Foundation website, his goal of raising $1 from every Canadian was achieved in February 1981, with funds eclipsing CA$24.17 million. And in April, the foundation stated more than CA$800 million has been raised.
