Adidas’ Latest Running Shoe Is Optimized for Your Best 5K and 10K

Adidas has released the Adizero Takumi Sen 10, the latest in its series of running sneakers designed to optimize performance over distances from 5K to 10K.

The shoe’s key updates come in its midsole, which now features a refined Energyrods 2.0 system and a double-layer of Lightstrike Pro foam. Made in part from recycled glass fibre, the Energyrods 2.0 replace a carbon plate used in previous models and mirror the shape of the metatarsal bones to provide a seamless transition from heel to toe with greater energy return. The tech is sandwiched between two layers of Lightstrike Pro foam in a bid to balance softness and stability.

“When developing the new Adizero Takumi Sen 10, we wanted to create a shoe specifically designed for the demands of 5 to 10Ks,” Moritz Hoellmueller, VP of design for Adidas Running, said in a press release. “Racing these distances on the road has a high impact on the body, which increases when running at high speeds, so runners require a propulsive yet cushioned shoe to support their feet. From a reduced upper construction made from 100 percent recycled polyester, to a more flexible and lower profile tooling, and increased grip on the outsole for navigating tight corners – every detail of the Adizero Takumi Sen 10 is built for fast road racing.”

Adidas conducted testing for the Adizero Takumi Sen 10 in Kenya and Ethiopia with male and female runners. Senbere Teferi and Agnes Tirop, previous record holders for the women’s 5K and 10K road races, respectively, both wore the Adizero Takumi Sen 8 while setting their marks in 2021.

The Adizero Takyumi Sen 10 features a heel stack height of 33mm with a drop of 6mm. A men’s pair weighs 198 grams, while women’s comes in at 167 grams.

Other recent additions to the Adizero franchise include the Adizero Prime X 2 Strung and Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1, the former of which was intentionally made to flout racing restrictions. The latter, meanwhile, is the lightest running shoe to date from Adidas and is eligible for elite racing.

Debuting in a “Green Spark” colorway inspired by bioluminescence, the Adidas Adizero Takumi Sen 10 is out now through Adidas’ app, website, and physical stores, as well as select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $180.
