adidas Just Debuted New Cool Neutrals for the NMD V3

adidas is the champion of blurring the lines between sportswear and streetwear, and there’s maybe no shoe that does it with the same ease as the adidas NMD_V3. The shoe is infused with performance, but has the look and wear of a casual sneaker. As you’re looking ahead to transitional footwear that will bring you out of the summer and into the fall, the NMD V3 is the sneaker to do it.

This week, adidas dropped some brand-new colorways of the NMD V3, all of which are built on this subtle, muted color palette that is easy to wear. This kind of look is especially good if you’re heading back to school or to the office and want something that you can wear every day. There are some effortless bright whites and off-whites, blacks, grays and muted purples. You can wear them right now — and through the rest of the summer — with denim shorts or any athleisure outfit, but they also look cool dressed up with a midi skirt or tailored work pants. There’s simply nothing better (or easier to throw on) than a well-fitting trouser and white sneakers — it’s the business casual that we actually like wearing.

The history of the NMD is rooted in this kind of lifestyle mix with a touch of performance. The sneaker launched in 2015 as an alternative to the UltraBoost. It was meant to be a little more lifestyle-leaning while still having that signature bouncy Boost sole. It took inspiration from the archives — the Micropacer, the Rising Star and the Boston Super, specifically — but made sure it put adidas’s best material innovations on display. The signature NMD blocks on the side (you might be used to seeing them in red or blue) are still on this shoe, but are smoothed over to make for a sleeker look. The V3 still looks like an NMD, but more refined.

Where the UltraBoost is a straight-up running sneaker, the NMD has always leaned more lifestyle. You can certainly get some cardio in with them, but they’re best for walking and especially commuting. They’ll never give you blisters and they always upgrade an outfit. NMDs have a stretchy Primeknit upper that moves with your foot all day long.

The NMD_V3 is the latest take on the NMD and is done up to have an overall more polished look. You’ve still got the signature Boost sole and grippy outsole for optimal outdoor walking. The knit upper is as stretchy as expected, and it’s made with a high-performance yarn (sourced from recycled Parley Ocean Plastic) and recycled polyester for a more sustainable shoe. Parley Ocean Plastic is part of adidas’s move to more sustainable production and its End Plastic Waste campaign, which works to find new ways to not just collect plastic in the oceans but also ways of making that plastic into something new.
