Adidas Dug Into the Archives for Some Must-Have Spring Sneakers

When it comes to sneakers, what’s old is new again. Whether it’s throwback basketball kicks or retro-ified running shoes, sneaker brands love to give vintage styles a bit of a modern refresh—and guys love to wear them. Adidas knows this, and knows it well. Last year, the Three Stripes did it with the Trimm Star, and then again with the newly minted Rascal. And now, Adidas dug into its archive for the brand’s latest Spezial collection—and that means a grip of old-but-new sneakers that are perfect for spring.

The Adidas Spezial line is the brand’s streetwear-friendly sub-label—think bold military jackets, graphic-heavy jerseys, and razor-sharp leisure wear. Everything has a bit of a vintage vibe, yet looks just the type of clothes and shoes you’d see in any bustling city. This season, Adidas partnered with collector Robert “Brooksy” Brooks, a fixture in the London sneaker scene, and the duo has resurfaced some deep-in-the-archive shoes. The collection of kicks is full of vibrant colors and timeless silhouettes—and just the type of sneakers you want to wear in 2019.

Some standouts include the ZX 530, a dusty grey runner with metallic silver accents, and the Whalley, a classic-looking Three Stripes shoe that’s made of nubuck leather and suede, and is finished off with a gum rubber outsole. (It comes in a pitch-perfect shade of burnt orange, too.) Other styles include the SL80, the Norfu, and the AS520—each worthy of being added to your current sneaker rotation.

It’s clear that Adidas knows you don’t have to always have to start at square one to create a great sneaker. Sometimes all it takes is giving an old model a fresh new colorway. As the weather finally warms up, you definitely want to have a fresh pair of kicks on deck for spring—and an Adidas sneaker from back in the day is one hell of a way to make that happen.
