About AdeptTheBest:

AdeptTheBest (@adeptthebest), whose real name is Samantha Lopez, is a 29-year-old gamer from Texas. She made a name for herself by streaming content on Twitch until she was officially banned from the platform on Oct. 3.

“I know what I’m capable of, and I know what I want to achieve,” Lopez once said about the origins of her handle. “I don’t want to live within your boundaries anymore. So that’s where the name AdeptTheBest came from.”

According to a 2020 interview with Gen.G Esports, Lopez was just an amateur gamer when she started hearing about Twitch from other famous players during games like Call of Duty.

“I didn’t even realize the whole world of Twitch at the time,” Lopez said. “I was just like, ‘Please play games. I’m good, and I want to beat you!'”

Within months, Lopez amassed thousands of fans, spilling over to platforms like YouTube, where she now has more than 116,000 subscribers. While she calls herself a “variety streamer” who plays multiple kinds of games, including Counter-Strike and Grand Theft Auto, Lopez is probably best known for playing the team-based game Overwatch. Her Just Chatting content, meanwhile, focuses on interacting and chatting with other players.

Despite her popularity, the gamer recently found herself in a world of controversy after splitting from her boyfriend and fellow streamer Félix Lengyel, more commonly known by the moniker xQc, one of the most popular streamers with over 11 million Twitch subscribers.

In February, Lopez claimed the pair were in a common-law marriage in the state of Texas and that she was filing for divorce. Texas legally recognizes common-law marriages between two people without a marriage license. She mentioned the common-law marriage in another video from August 2020.

Lengyel, however, claimed in a Jan. 8 stream that he has “never been married” and that his lawyer alleged in court records that the pair didn’t “hold themselves” as husband and wife.

According to the former couple, they first started dating in 2017 but wanted to keep their relationship private. In fact, they never confirmed being more than just “roommates” until 2021, when Lopez posted about it on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Despite dating for nearly six years, the former couple seemingly had an on-again, off-again kind of romance with multiple break-ups along the way that weren’t always amicable. But after their most recent split — apparently for good this time — it’s gotten particularly messy.

A legal document leaked in August in which Lopez formally accused Lengyel of sexual assault. The case later ended without evidence of wrongdoing found and “no conviction or deferred adjudication,” but Lengyel felt compelled to address the accusations during a livestream with fans.

“I will not stand for that,” Lengyel says during the stream, according to Distractify. “Whether it’s with friends, whether it’s with girls, I have never been, a singular incident, physically abusive, a singular time. It has never happened.”

By September, fans of the former couple noticed that both unfollowed each other on social media, which Lengyel addressed during another livestream.

This time, he confirmed their split and explained that it happened sometime after his brother moved in with them.

“I love my brother, I love my family, but he and his girlfriend, and me and Sammy, we just couldn’t be all at once in one place. We couldn’t. It’s just not possible,” Lengyel says in the stream. “There was friction when I was at my brother’s house, and there was friction when we all got here. It was just very odd.

“I felt like I had to make a choice. I was cornered into choosing between family and Sammy, and unfortunately, what happened is that I kind of just chose family,” he continues. “It was my fault. That’s just what happened.”

In the weeks since, the split grew even uglier, with both parties speaking out on various social media platforms.

During an Instagram Story, Lopez reportedly accused Lengyel of paying Twitch moderators for sex. In another, Lengyel accused Lopez of stealing his baby photos and other personal belongings. The couple has also publicly argued over the ownership of a $300,000 McLaren sports car reportedly registered in Lopez’s name, as Lengyel does not have a license.

For his part, Lengyel has denied all his ex’s claims and even showed the McLaren during a stream to prove he still had it.

The public spat eventually reached a head on Oct. 3 when the platform that made Lopez famous officially banned her.

Though the reasons for the ban aren’t public, it’s rumored the streamer wasn’t blocked from Twitch solely because of inflammatory statements about her ex.

The ban happened in the middle of Lopez’s livestream, captured on camera by a fan. Since posting on YouTube, the video has been viewed more than 31,000 times in less than a week.
