Adele's "Titanic"-Themed Party Has Some Fans Upset
To celebrate her 30th birthday, Adele threw a party themed around one of her favorite movies: Titanic. But some fans thought throwing a party based on a real-life tragedy may not have been the most tasteful move.

Adele shared photos of the shindig Monday on Instagram, noting the party was to celebrate her “super fandom of the Titanic movie.” She dressed up as Kate Winslet’s character, Rose, and she and other guests danced while wearing life jackets. Other guests reportedly included British celebrities and music-industry vets, including Alan Carr, Zane Lowe, and Mark Ronson, plus Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul and his wife, Lauren.

Many fans thought the idea was hilarious and a fitting tribute to the James Cameron movie. After all, Adele has frequently thrown movie-themed parties, and this is just the latest in a string of movie homages.
"the revenant."
"ghostbusters."
"the mask."
& now "titanic."

Adele dressing up as Rose from the Titanic is the best thing that you’ll see all day. pic.twitter.com/Hc3cPMbX7O

Forever screaming about Adele’s Titanic-themed 30th birthday party.
I’ve never had worse FOMO. 😭🙏🙌 pic.twitter.com/NVH20Q3pk7- Alex Goldschmidt (@alexandergold) May 6, 2018
But others weren’t so thrilled, saying it isn’t exactly funny to throw a party based on a massive tragedy where many people died. A total of 1,503 people died when the Titanic sunk on its maiden voyage in 1912.
I know I'm "easily offended" // harshly critical but is anyone else disturbed that #Adele had a #Titanic themed bday party where they wore life jackets on the dance floor? Like maybe partying whilst mimicing the absolute horror of a ship sinking in the Atlantic isnt cool? pic.twitter.com/HFiZEsXCxo

genuine question: how much time has to pass before history feels distant enough to be fodder? just the survivors need to pass? or their families? we clearly desensitise the past after some point but how long? (oh and i don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer here!)

Isn’t this kinda/very inappropriate? Adele’s Titanic themed birthday party had them dancing in life jackets... Thousands of people actually died. pic.twitter.com/Ya0xOEarfH

Saving the 9/11 party for the big 4–0?

You guys Adele appeared to have a titanic themed bday party... how positively morose

This ended up starting a debate on social media, with fans telling those offended to simply lighten up.
On Halloween nobody complains when 80% of people are dressed up as ghost, mafias and the scariest fictional & non fictional killers/antagonist. So STFU.

Everyone criticising @adele for her Titanic themed birthday can STFU saying it’s distasteful. Like Titanic was one of the highest grossing films of all time, guarantee you all contributed to that for ENTERTAINMENT purposes. So if you’ve watched the film, take several seats

Either way, it’s clear Adele’s passion for Titanic knows no bounds. Back in January, she met Celine Dion while wearing a shirt emblazoned with her face - and the ship.
