How to Add Turmeric to Pretty Much Every Meal

Every meal is an opportunity to benefit from turmeric's anti-inflammatory properties.

Turmeric is having a 24-karat kind of moment. Incredibly versatile and packed with antioxidants and the anti-inflammatory compound curcumin, the healthy gilt-hued spice is showing up in everything from lattes to popcorn. Even if traditional turmeric dishes aren't your taste, you can still get a regular dose of the superfood. No mater what you're making, the spice is easily incorporated. "Turmeric has a great aroma and tastes neutral, so it works in sweet and savory foods," says Brooke Williamson, Top Chef winner and a co-chef-owner of Playa Provisions and the Tripel in Los Angeles. She likes to match it with the heat of ginger, the complexity of licorice, and the sweetness of root vegetables. Her favorite twists:

An iced almond milk turmeric latte is the perfect pick-me-up on a warm afternoon. Blend 1 tablespoon chopped fresh turmeric, 1 teaspoon chopped fresh ginger, 1 tablespoon honey, and 1 cup almond milk until smooth and frothy. Strain over an ice-filled glass and enjoy.
