From Good Housekeeping

Hubie Halloween is the Adam Sandler movie we all need in 2020. Adam's iconic immature humor shines through in his new comedy-horror film that follows Hubie, Salem's good-hearted "Halloween Helper" who finds himself saving the Massachusetts town from a suspicious kidnapper.

Just like in his past movies, Adam enlisted the help of some of his favorite actors — Kevin James, Rob Schneider, Steve Buscemi, Julie Bowen, Tim Meadows, and countless more — to tell Hubie's heroic tale. But not only did Adam call on his acting friends to appear in the film, the former Saturday Night Live comedian also planted some key Easter eggs in Hubie Halloween to pay tribute to his most beloved comedies, including and most notably Billy Madison (1995).

Some fans caught the Billy Madison Easter eggs, but we're willing to bet they went largely unnoticed. In case you missed them (which is easy to do!), here are the three big Billy Madison references and Easter Eggs in Hubie Halloween:

The bullies

Fans of Billy Madison can recall that the titular character, played by Adam of course, was constantly bullied by a family group known as the O'Doyles. Interestingly enough, the O'Doyles get a shout-out in Adam's latest Netflix flick when Hubie is riding his bike through Salem and starts getting followed and harassed by a group of boys wearing Scream masks. While whizzing through town on their bikes, Movie Boss caught one of boys yelling "O'Doyle rules!" Safe to say, this was intentional.

The bag prank

In Billy Madison, Billy and his friends leave a flaming bag of excrement on an elderly man's front porch as a cruel prank. Well, this comes back to haunt Adam via Hubie, as CinemaBlend.com points out. Turns out, the Scream bullies use the same weapon to hurl at Hubie early on in the film. Looks like Adam gave himself his own dose of karma.

Walter Lambert's blue shirt

Steve Buscemi's cameo in Hubie Halloween already brings movie fans back to his and Adam's collaboration on Billy Madison, as well as The Wedding Singer, Big Daddy, and several other Sandler comedies. But what's even more interesting is that Steve's character in Billy Madison, Danny McGrath, dons a similar combover hairstyle and blue shirt as Walter Lambert, who Steve plays in Hubie Halloween. The comparison is most noticeable when Hubie comes across Walter in his basement. Even though the shirt isn't identical, the similarities are too great to pass off as pure coincidence.

Did you catch all of these? If you did, you're a true movie wiz. If there are more, tell us in the comment section below. Easter eggs are so fun, aren't they?!
