'The Adam Project' Will Not Be Getting a Sequel

It's a sad day for fans of The Adam Project (or perhaps a relief depending on how you feel about sequels). Netflix's sci-fi, time-travel epic starring Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner and Zoe Saldana will not be getting a follow-up.
In a recent interview with Parade, the movie's director, Shawn Levy, stated definitively, "By the way, I should just say, The Adam Project was a huge hit, one of the biggest all-time hits for Netflix, but that movie felt self-contained and exactly what we wanted it to be. We're not going to develop a sequel because the idea doesn't feel right for that."
Levy, who has directed hits like Cheaper by the Dozen, Night at the Museum and the highly anticipated Netflix adaptation of All the Light We Cannot See, will still be re-teaming with Reynolds, though. The dynamic duo, who first worked together on Free Guy and then The Adam Project, are in the process of making Deadpool 3. While the SAG-AFTRA strike has put the partially shot Marvel movie's 2024 release date in jeopardy, the Levy/Reynolds pairing will be back on the big-screen before long.

While Netflix doesn't release viewership numbers, The Adam Project was a success for the streamer by all accounts, with it topping the Nielsen charts the week of its release. The movie, which saw Reynolds' character teaming up with a past younger version of himself to save the world, also received generally favorable reviews.
Of course, part of Levy's opting out of an Adam Project sequel may just be his need to focus his efforts elsewhere. In addition to Deadpool 3, he's also working on the final season of Stranger Things (which he created along with the Duffer Brothers) and a new Star Wars movie. That's on top of producing 20-plus projects through his production company, 21 Laps.

For the time being, it looks like The Adam Project 2 is off the table, but who knows? Perhaps an older version of Shawn Levy will return from the future baring news of The Adam Project VI: The Revenge of Adam.
