Actors Patrick J. Adams and Troian Bellisario's LA home is a masterclass on Spanish Colonial design

The Los Angeles home of actor couple Patrick J. Adams and Troian Bellisario is a sentimental and thoughtfully designed space. Featuring lots of earthy tones and textural materials, the whole home feels organic and relaxing, with strong links to nature.

Patrick J. Adams, who starred in Suits alongside Meghan Markle, and Troian Bellisario, who is best known for starring in Pretty Little Liars, shared a glimpse into the design of their family home, and we're inspired by its original and unique design.

The LA home, which was previously featured in Architectural Digest’s Open Door series, is a Spanish Colonial Revival building, that was originally built in 1924 by prestigious California architect Wallace Neff.

The couple turned to interior designer Rosa Beltran to update the home for modern-day use, with the aim of respecting the building’s original architectural features, yet creating a practical space for the couple and their young children. Central to this was ensuring the family's personality could show without feeling the need to stick to too many stylistic rules.

‘The goal was to make it feel how Neff and the team of artisans who had worked on the home, in the beginning, would have wanted it to feel, and also to make it really comfortable and useful for a modern-day family,’ Beltran tells Architectural Digest.

The living room is double-height and features lots of design elements that are typical of Spanish Colonial-style houses, namely the arches that run throughout the home, and the fresh, white walls contrasted with exposed natural wooden features.

‘There are iron details that run throughout the home, which give it a handmade, natural feel, much like the Wallace Neff design,’ explains NYC-based interior designer Artem Kropovinsky.

Upon revamping the home, recessed shelving was added to the living room which follows the building's original arched design, as well as the addition of vintage-inspired French doors that open the home up to the garden ideas to enhance its links to the outdoors.

In the above post’s caption, Rosa Beltran explains that a range of artisans were hired to carefully replicate the original details of the home, including the details of the original doors and windows that feature intricate characteristics.

The furniture in the living room combines newer pieces with decorating with vintage items, which results in an array of different textures, such as the leather armchairs, bouclé trend ottoman, and elm side table. ‘If everything was all matchy-matchy or all of one era or all one style, there’s no tension. It’s not interesting,’ explains Beltran.
