Many mountain bike trails ask that riders stay off them in the rain so that a rut does not form. Getting constantly splattered with mud is not that fun either.
For some UK riders, however, the ruts and the mud is the point. There was a famous three-part series on the beauty of slapping ruts in the mud.
Recently, the trend has spread across the English Channel. Watch French rider Valentin Anouihl get sideways in some disgusting conditions below.
In this video, Valentin takes his bike down a rut track that has become an active river. The track features bathtub-deep ruts. Valentin absolutely lays the bike over.
Rather than brave the elements on a wet ride, many people enjoy sessioning a rut track. The stoke can be higher getting silly on the same wet corners than it would be doing a normal trail lap.
