She didn’t just wake up like this. Ahead of her wedding to Brooks Laich, bride of the summer Julianne Hough wanted brilliant bright blonde tresses for the moment, so her longtime hairstylist and close friend Riawna Capri came up with a unique formula to achieve the soft and sweet color transformation.

Capri, the co-owner of Nine Zero One Salon in L.A., took to social media and shared more insight about the prepping process with Byrdie Beauty. “For me, it’s so important to create the entire masterpiece,” the celeb hair guru told the site. “If you can find a stylist that can do it all and work with you from start to finish, then you will get that perfect dream hair. It’s hard if you’re having one stylist cut, another stylist color, and one style.”

In fact, Capri recommends finding a professional a year in advance, and she advises brides to come prepared. It’s equally important for clients to share looks they both like and dislike—and to be specific. Hough, who’s actually inspired her own sought-after hairstyle (“the Julianne”) at Nine Zero One, knew exactly what she wanted for her wedding: her childhood hair color.

“Let’s just say she did what most bride-to-be’s do,” Capri recalled on Instagram. “‘I want that hair color I had when I was 8 years old!’ (With pictures to show it 😶) And LUCKY me, jules just so happened to be a toe head, perfect, See-Thru, baby blonde… This photo is completely unaltered, taken around 6pm, outside of @ninezeroone. Imagine it at noon!? 😍 Stay tuned and I will give y’all the befores and the break down you been asking for.”

Here it is babes! 🎨 @JulesHough wedding color formula! Swipe right to see what we were starting with 😏 and some Fun extra pics. For all you hairstylist out there, this is for you! (If you’re not a hairstylist, feel free to double tap and get back to your feed about now, cuz the rest will be jibberish 😘😜) #LiveTheBlondeLife, and this is how: For all of you who were asking if she was a bleach and tone, absolutely not, we wanted her to be super bright like when she was 8 years old, so she needed some of her natural color to remain looking effortless. I took my time and did a full blown heavy ass baby fine highlight, leaving no space in between the next foil, all baby highlights back to back. I started at the nape of her neckline with 10vol + @joico #BlondeLife Lightener. And once I got up to the middle of her ears, I switched to 20 vol. All the way until I was at the top of her crown, then switched to 30vol until about an inch away from her hairline, I switched back to 20vol, and on her actual hairline I used 10 vol again. I think I had to remix about 7 full bowls of bleach total. No joke. Once all the foils were in, I finally got my glass of Rosé 😏 I took out the ones at the bottom that were ready to go, patiently waited for the rest to catch up, then washed 19 pounds out of her hair. So, The secret trick to make her sparkle ✨ is painting 40vol on her entire hairline at the bowl for 5 minutes. 😉 Her toner was sweet and simple: 9NV+9V+Clear all equal parts of #Joico #Lumishine. Not only was the tone perfection, the condition and shine you get after leaving it on 10 mins is incredible. Then sealed the deal with K-Pak Revitaluxe. No joke, after 19 pounds of bleach, her hair felt like butter!!! 2 appointments and 10 hours later, Jules had her perfect wedding color. ❤️❤️❤️

Indeed, Capri followed up with the full formula this weekend in an Instagram slideshow. The professional specifically shared the color process with her fellow hairstylists, and encouraged her followers to solicit their help for similar results. “For all of you who were asking if she was a bleach and tone, absolutely not,” Capri wrote. “We wanted her to be super bright like when she was 8 years old, so she needed some of her natural color to remain looking effortless. I took my time and did a full blown heavy ass baby fine highlight, leaving no space in between the next foil, all baby highlights back to back.”

All the way until I was at the top of her crown, then switched to 30vol until about an inch away from her hairline, I switched back to 20vol, and on her actual hairline I used 10 vol again,” Capri continued. “I think I had to remix about 7 full bowls of bleach total. Of course, a toner was a natural next step. “9NV+9V+Clear all equal parts of #Joico#Lumishine. Not only was the tone perfection, the condition and shine you get after leaving it on 10 mins is incredible,” Capri concluded. “Then [we] sealed the deal with K-Pak Revitaluxe. According to the stylist, Hough originally wanted to chop her hair between the ceremony and the reception. The Dancing With the Stars judge wore a sleek ballerina bun while exchanging vows with Laich, and thought she wanted a bob for the reception. However, she ultimately decided to keep her longer tresses and went with a faux bob since she loved the color so much.

The star and NHL player Laich exchanged vows in Northern Idaho in early July. They are currently enjoying the second part of their honeymoon in Kenya after a glorious stay in the Seychelles.
