When it comes to color trends, Pantone knows all. Consistently nailing down what hues we'll see on and off runways, its trend reports are key for knowing what we can expect to see popping up in stores and in the wardrobes of our favorite street style stars. And this fall is a very fun mix of vibrant, look-at-me brights, some unexpected yet highly versatile neutrals and just about every shade of red you can imagine. So whether you’ve been living it up in Barbie-inspired pinks all summer long or opting for more subtle quiet luxury hues, the nine shades listed below are sure to become your new favorite go-tos for fall ’23. Now, without further ado, here are Pantone’s top color trends to start buying and wearing, ASAP.

Everything You Need for the Ultimate Fall Capsule Wardrobe

1. Fiery Red

Edward Berthelot/Getty Images ; Pantone

Pantone called out multiple shades of red—Red Dahlia, Viva Magenta, Fired Brick, Persimmon—in its trend reports, but it’s this bold, cherry-inspired hue that we think will be the biggest hit this fall. The bold shade is universally flattering, and makes a major statement whether you opt for a maxi-length dress or a simple red lip. And while it mixes well with almost every neutral, we’d be wary about pairing fiery red with black. The combination can look a bit intense, whereas shades of white, brown or beige help tone down such a “look at me!” hue.

2. Kohlrabi

Edward Berthelot/Getty Images ; Pantone

Avid cooks may recognize the name of this vibrant green as a hardy vegetable, sometimes also called German turnip or turnip cabbage. Pantone describes the hue as “pleasantly sharp” and we’d have to agree—no matter how small a splash of this exuberant green you add to your outfit, it’s sure to cut through, grabbing everyone’s attention (and prompting lots of “omg, where’d you get that?” queries). To that end, we say why not throw a little bit of kohlrabi green in with anything and everything else in your wardrobe? If you’re feeling bold, pair it with shades of blue, purple or darker greens, or you can stick with classic neutrals to really let it steal the spotlight.

3. Lacecap Hydrangea

Christian Vierig/Getty Images ; Pantone

For those who prefer more muted tones, this icy blue offers just the right amount of punch without feeling too over the top. It’s also a color that can work for all four seasons, depending on what you pair it with. For fall we suggest balancing this floral-inspired blue with deeper shades like gem tones, caramel brown, mustard yellow or even fiery red. If you want to get the most out of your Lacecap Hydrangea pieces, opt for more timeless silhouettes—blazers, button-up shirts, A-line midi skirts—so you can continue to wear them all year long.

4. Tender Peach

Rachpoot/Bauer-Griffin/GC Images/Getty Images ; Pantone

Not quite beige, not quite cream, this delicate hue has subtle pink undertones to give it a warm feeling that will transition beautifully into winter. In fact, most of the neutral shades Pantone notes in its trend report lay on the warmer end of the spectrum, so prepare yourself for lots of cozy gray, milk chocolate and creamy whites. As for Tender Peach, we think it works best in either very flowy pieces, like silk blouses or slip dresses, or more structured tailoring, like a wool blazer or straight-leg trousers. When in doubt, lean into the quiet luxury vibes for this trend.

5. Burnt Sienna

Christian Vierig/Getty Images ; Pantone

Barbie pink had a good run this summer, and will continue to trend for festive holiday ‘fits and special occasion ensembles, but for every day, more muted shades of pink will be taking over this fall. Burnt Sienna has an earthier, richer vibe that feels right on the nose for leaf-peeping season, and can almost be treated as a neutral hue. This deep pink plays particularly well with shades of white or beige (less so with stark white or black), but is also fun to pair with more vivid shades, like yellow, light green or bright red.

6. Spectra Yellow

Edward Berthelot/Getty Images ; Pantone

Yellow sometimes gets a bad rap as a color that’s difficult to wear, but this particular shade is actually quite flattering on a wide range of skin tones. It’s bright and cheery without veering into highlighter territory, and the warm undertones won’t wash out paler complexions. We find this color is easiest to wear as a solo pop, worn with neutral basics like a white tee, beige sweater or medium-wash denim. That said, if you’re a “more is more” type of gal, by all means go forth and pile on the pinks, oranges or purples.

7. Sparkling Grape

Edward Berthelot/Getty Images ; Pantone

This rich purple isn’t as warm as violet, nor as deep as plum, but sits somewhere right in between, making it, in all honesty, a somewhat difficult hue to match. However, we completely adore how Sparkling Grape shines next to shades of gray, which help to elevate this Barney-adjacent purple. Go for bold with this one, and opt for large color blocks (pants, sweaters, coats) over small pops, and don’t be afraid to layer it next to other shades of purple for a quasi-monochrome look.

8. Olive Oil

Edward Berthelot/Getty Images ; Pantone

This neutral shade sits somewhere in the middle of beige and green, giving it an unexpected versatility. Depending on the other colors you mix into your outfit, you can play up either end of the spectrum to fit your needs. To make Olive Oil feel more like a truly neutral beige, layer it with brighter shades of green (Kelly, lime, kohlrabi) or basically any blue. And to lean into the golden green undertones, opt instead for light brown, red, pink or yellow.

9. Red Orange

Edward Berthelot/Getty Images ; Pantone

This orange hue looks just gorgeous on so many skin tones, and also plays perfectly with one of 2023’s other top trends, rich neutrals. It evokes images of falling leaves, pumpkin patches and cozy nights by the fire, making it the ultimate fall shade, in our opinion. Have some fun with this one and play around with all sorts of color combos, but be wary of wearing only orange and black as you may end up looking a bit too Halloween-y.
