According to Alexander Wang's Latest Collection with Adidas Originals, Clubbing Is a Sport
The designer's collaboration with the sports brand is now in its fifth season.
The partnership between Alexander Wang and Adidas Originals is still going strong with the debut of their newest collection — the collaboration's fifth season — on Monday. While Wang made us one with Mother Nature last fall, he's now gone back to his #WANGFEST roots.
Inspired by the idea of clubbing as a sport — which, if you've ever been to a party thrown by Wang, it very well could be — the New York designer created apparel and sneakers that pay homage to '80s-era fitness. Dubbed "club-leisure," each garment is made to take you from the gym to the dance floor, like a crop top-meets-sports bra hybrid or a pair of sleek bike shorts. Cozy hoodies, sweatpants and T-shirts made from cotton French terry will help you on your rest days, too. The clothing's graphics are a throwback, as well, with a mix of vintage-style fonts in neon and pastel colors that make up the phrases "Wangbody" and "Pro-Flex."
For footwear, Wang introduced a new low-top sneaker, the AW Wangbody Run, inspired by the '90s and Adidas's own Marathon TR shoe. Previous collections' AW Bball Soccer and AW Bball sneakers are revamped in new colorways, including an off-white "chalk pearl" and pink.
The fun part of this collection is, however, the campaign, for which Wang casted models Dakota Moore (in the photo above and gallery below), Noami Janumala, Avi McClish and Olivia Burgess. Photographed by Johnny Dufort and styled by Haley Wollens, the imagery takes on the feel of an '80s-era instructional video for dance fitness, choreographed by Tanisha Scott, who's worked with Rihanna and Beyoncé. Let's hope there's a video component with this collection, too.
