After an Accident that Left Him Paralyzed, this Groom Walked her Down the Aisle

There aren't many words that I can say that will properly introduce this post. It's a love story. Pure and simple. Childhood sweethearts whose lives were totally disrupted when Alex, the groom, was in a terrible accident that left him paralyzed. Through the grace of God (and a lot of physical therapy and incredibly hard work), he not only got down on one knee to propose, he also walked his beautiful bride, Lily, down the aisle. In one of the more honest, more sincere, more wholly love-focused weddings we've ever seen - photographed so beautifully by Lucy Munoz and designed by Brilliant Wedding Co. - this is what it's all about.

From Lucy Munoz Photography... Meet Alex and Lily. They are two of the sweetest most genuine people on the planet. They met each other when they were in 5th grade and even went to a performing arts high school together. They have known one another for most of their lives. Their love story took a turn last year when Alex got into a car accident and was paralyzed. He decided that this wouldn't be his story because his goal was to get up off the wheelchair and propose to Lily. He was 100% committed to therapy and, unbeknownst to Lily, as he purposefully kept it a secret, was able to stand up off the wheelchair after months of physical therapy. On Christmas Eve, he got down on one knee and proposed to Lily. She said she didn't know what was more shocking--the proposal or seeing Alex stand up.

On their wedding day Alex walked Lily (his bride) down the aisle. They decided to read their wedding vows privately to one another-it was the sweetest thing to witness and photograph! They didn't have a wedding cake or do most of the traditional wedding things that couples do (she didn't carry a bouquet, have a garter toss, or a mother/father dance). It was purely about their love, family and friends. I think ultimately that is what shines in their pictures. I was so blessed and privileged to document such an important day. However the real blessing for these two is that Alex and Lily get to continue to be in one another's lives and that their love for one another continues to be the focal point in their marriage. Often we tend to get so caught up in the trivialities of life---things that we often think are important, when in actuality they are not. A beautiful lesson that I learned during this wedding is to love harder than you think possible, to be intentional, and to focus on what matters most to you. The rest is just icing on the cake (or in this case, not even necessary).
