ABC Wanted Jason Tartick to Propose to Kaitlyn Bristowe on National Television—But He Said ‘No’

Earlier this week, Chris Harrison tricked Kaitlyn Bristowe into thinking her boyfriend, Jason Tartick, was proposing—when in reality, the Bachelor Nation host was simply asking the former Bachelorette to join the cast of Dancing with the Stars. If Harrison’s speech seemed well-rehearsed, it’s probably because ABC tried to get Tartick to pop the question…but he didn’t go for it.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Tartick confirmed that producers approached him about the possibility of proposing to Bristowe on The Bachelor: The Greatest Seasons—Ever!

“They actually came to me asking me if I'd like to take this opportunity to propose. I shot it down after about a day of thinking,” he said, adding there wasn’t “any pressure” about the decision.

Tartick confessed there were multiple factors that impacted his decision. However, the biggest one was the fact that Bristowe’s season of The Bachelorette was re-airing that same night, and he didn’t want to compete with 20-something ex-boyfriends.

“We don’t need these stories to align in the same showing,” he explained. “But I told Kaitlyn after…she’s like, ‘Thank God [you didn’t agree].’”

Bristowe chimed in to validate his story, saying, “I wouldn’t want that to be done either. Sorry. No way.” And then added, “All I know is that I don't want it to be like, live somehow in front of people. I want it to be a private moment. I don’t want it to be quarantined, but I want it to be private.”

We hope Tartick was taking notes…
