It’s big news for reality TV at ABC this morning. The Alphabet Network has renewed American Idol for it’s seventh season on ABC (22nd overall), The Bachelor for its 28th season, and Shark Tank for season 15.

Other reality shows that got a green light to return are America’s Funniest Home Videos, Bachelor in Paradise, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, and Celebrity Jeopardy.

And with the reveal of its Fall 2023-2024 schedule, it became apparent why all the unscripted shows were renewed: ABC is going with a strike-proof schedule for the fall, meaning that all their dramas and comedies will be held until midseason with the exception of Abbott Elementary, which will air in reruns on Wednesday nights.

One surprising addition to the schedule is the debut of the long-discussed Golden Bachelor, which will feature a man and a group of women on the other side of 60 years old looking for love.

Here is official synopsis: “After more than 20 years of fostering young love on The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and Bachelor in Paradise, The Golden Bachelor showcases a whole new kind of love story — one for the golden years. On this all-new unscripted series, one hopeless romantic is given a second chance at love in the search for a partner with whom to share the sunset years of life. The women arriving at the mansion have a lifetime of experience, living through love, loss and laughter, hoping for a spark that ignites a future full of endless possibilities. In the end, will our Golden man turn the page to start a new chapter with the woman of his dreams?”

But back to midseason shows, in addition to the unscripted renewals, two comedies also got a pickup: The Conners and Not Dead Yet.

Earlier pickups were given to Abbott Elementary, The Good Doctor, Grey’s Anatomy, The Rookie, Station 19, and first-year series Will Trent.

ABC also announced earlier that it was adding 9-1-1 to its schedule, following the show’s cancellation by FOX.

Not returning series include the dramas Big Sky, Alaska Daily, and The Company You Keep and The Goldbergs and A Million Little Things, which had come to the end of their runs.

ABC has not yet made a decision on The Rookie: Feds and Home Economics.
