AARON TAYLOR-JOHNSON became the subject of all manner of headlines lately when he was seemingly-but-not-officially confirmed as the new casting choice to play James Bond—even though the British actor had nothing to say on the matter, preferring to promote Kraven the Hunter and the upcoming Nosferatu remake.

Cheering him on in all of his projects is his wife, Sam Taylor-Johnson. And their marriage has generated plenty of headlines too, due to the 23-year age difference between them—and the circumstances under which they first got together.

They met when Aaron was 19 and Sam was 42.

The couple first met on the set of the 2009 film Nowhere Boy, in which 19-year-old Taylor-Johnson (then still working under the name Aaron Johnson) starred as a teenage John Lennon. 42-year-old Sam Taylor-Wood, as she was then called, was the movie's director. During filming, the two began a relationship, and announced their engagement at the Nowhere Boy premiere in October 2009.

They got married three years later, and have four daughters together.

Taylor-Johnson recently dismissed the concerns about the age gap and how very young he was when they got married and had children in an interview with Rolling Stone, claiming that by the time it happened, he had been working in films for almost a decade.

"What you gotta realize... is that what most people were doing in their twenties, I was doing when I was 13," he said. "You're doing something too quickly for someone else? I don't understand that. What speed are you supposed to enjoy life at? It’s bizarre to me."

She has made some controversial films.

Sam's other directing credits include the film adaptations of E.L. James' hugely popular erotic novel 50 Shades of Grey—a movie she has since disavowed—and James Frey's memoir A Million Little Pieces, which Aaron co-wrote and starred in. Both were critically panned.

Her most recent project is Back to Black, a biopic of the late singer Amy Winehouse.

"Sam is actually a great filmmaker and a wonderful storyteller," Taylor-Johnson told Rolling Stone. "People will think there’s sort of a bias to me saying it, but I think when they see Back to Black, everyone’s going to realise how fantastic a filmmaker she is."
