Aaron Rodgers Reveals Next Steps in First Post-Injury Interview With Pat McAfee

Aaron Rodgers appeared Friday afternoon on the Pat McAfee Show, in his first interview since his horrific injury last week.

Speaking with McAfee, Rodgers briefed the coach on his next move after a torn Achilles unceremoniously ended his much-buzzed-about Jets debut, just four minutes into their opening game. Rodgers, who appeared virtually from his home in Malibu, underwent a successful surgery Wednesday, his first step towards mending.

"You’re in a situation now I don’t think you’ve experienced much before," McAfee told the QB.

"Monday was an amazing day to start," Rodgers admitted. "[An] amazing night around the field with the flag. Electric. And then it turned into one of the toughest 24-hour stretches I’ve had in my life, for sure. A lot of sadness, a lot of tears, a lot of dark frustration and anger. All the gamut of emotions."

Rodgers elaborated on his feelings just after his injury:“Before even an MRI, I knew what happened. I knew right away that this was not a good situation...A lot of the sadness initially was just feeling like I’d let so many people down. A big part of it was just how hard I’d worked. There was just a lot of sadness the first 24 hours because of how excited I was about the season."

He described watching the rest of opening night from his home as "a really bizarre feeling," but that "for our guys to come back and win that game was just really, really special."

Asked about his expectations for rehab and recovery time, Rodgers was frank about his expectations for himself. "What I’d like to say is: Give me the doubts. Give me the timetables. Give me all the things you [think] can, should, or would happen. Cuz all I need is that one little extra percent of inspiration,” Rodgers said as a man in the crowd shouted out, “It’s possible!”

“Give me your doubts, your prognostications, and then watch what I do,” Rodgers told the cheering crowd. Asked if he might even make it to the playoffs this year, the star demurred but admitted: "Anything's possible."
