99-Year-Old Pennsylvania Grandmother Meets Her 100th Great-Grandchild
And her 101st came shortly after!
A 99-year-old woman in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, is welcoming her 100th great-grandchild into the world.
Peggy Koller, who grew up as an only child, always wanted to be surrounded by loved ones. "I wanted to have a big family. I think it's difficult being an only child - it's lonely," she said in an interview with WPVI-TV in 2015. With 11 children, 56 grandchildren, and 100 great-grandchildren, her wish has certainly come true.
Peggy's granddaughter, Chrissy Balster, shared the exciting news with WABC-TV, revealing that the very first stop after leaving the hospital wasn't home, but to go meet Grandmom. "She was absolutely ecstatic," Balster told the outlet. After all, the new baby isn't just the 100th cousin in the newest generation; he's also got a very special name: Koller William Balster.
Koller for his mother's family, of course, and William for Peggy's husband.
Ironically, Peggy almost chose to become a nun over marrying William, who died in 2008. "I actually applied when I was a junior in high school but he talked me out of it," she said in 2015.
Koller was also in a tight race for that 100th spot — Balster and her cousin, Colleen, were due one day apart from each other, but Koller made the first grand entrance.
In 2015, Peggy's family said that she makes it a point to never miss a baptism, graduation or birthday party. "She's really an inspiration. And to be the age she is and still going about it every day - it's unbelievable," her grandson Greg Stokes said at the time. It's her dozens upon dozens of descendants that were said to keep her active.
Patrick, the baby's father, and Chrissy have added a few more reasons to the list. "She does work out twice a day, which is insane," Patrick said.
"I think faith is the other one, I'd say," Chrissy said. "Faith and family. That's what's been keeping her going." Somebody should make sure she adds a Dr. Pepper to the equation, asap!
