96-Year-Old Bartending ‘Legend’ Says She Has No Plans to Stop Working

Betty Kai, a 96-year-old bartender working on Fort Myers Beach in Florida, intends to continue working as long as she can.

The talented woman was featured in a segment for NBC2 News, with the news channel interviewing friends and fans about Betty. Many called her a "legend," recounting tales about her eventful life.

Betty reportedly owned a bar in Wisconsin for many years before selling it and moving to Fort Myers, where she planned to "retire," but that was 33 years ago.

Tina Tomasino, the owner of a bar Betty works at called Hurricane Tina's, told the news station, "Everybody knows Betty. If you know her, you love her. She’s the only one who can yell at me behind the bar."

When Betty was asked, "What has kept you doing [bartending] all these years?", she simply said, "The people. You can't ask for more than that."

Along with Hurricane Tina's, Betty bartends at many other bars on the beach. As the news station filmed a Wednesday morning at work for Betty, a customer even suggested that Betty work at a Margaritaville opening up nearby, to which she said, "I already have a job down there." The location is set to open next year.

Amazingly, the 96-year-old also juggles another job as an ordained minister, with Betty reportedly officiating more than 500 ceremonies so far. A loyal customer also noted that she used to do landscaping for a number of houses, but she stopped recently, and that she even used to be part of the Ringling Bros. circus.

What a legend, indeed!
