90+ MPH Winds Predicted For Tahoe Ski Resorts This Weekend

Tahoe Daily Snow provided a grim warning for the storm this weekend: when it rains, it pours, right? Or in this case... when it snows, it gets windy.

The tweet, posted two days ago, advised "if you plan to chase the powder this weekend, be aware of the strong winds expected, with ridgetop winds gusting up to 90+ mph."

Unfortunately, Tahoe Daily Snow also concurred that these winds "will close some upper mountain lifts on Saturday."

The winds will be at their worst on Saturday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, "Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph increasing to 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph in the afternoon. Ridge gusts up to 80 mph increasing to 95 mph in the afternoon."

Luckily, SnowPals.org (a website dedicated to helping San Francisco "busy professionals" make the most of Tahoe) came in with the tips.

Wind protected lifts in Tahoe are available at Northstar, Sugarbowl Resort (mid mountain), Diamond Peak, Homewood, and Sierra At Tahoe.

There is always the chance of losing power altogether. But as SnowPals SF writes, "when there's a will, there's a way."

Or maybe it's a great day to put on The Blizzard of Aahhhs and tune your skis. To reminisce about Scot Schmidt and his winter spent working in the ski shop at Palisades, dreaming of ski racing, doing more lines for Warren Miller, and wondering when the snow was coming (sounds a little like our winter thus far)!

I forgot to reserve parking for Palisades anyways. There's the silver lining in this storm. Kidding: besides the snow, of course!
