The “90+ Banquet” is a party for any southern Nevadan who’s 90 or older

LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) – For the 31st time, the City of Las Vegas put out the call to anyone in southern Nevada who’s 90 years old or older:

“Come on down! We want to treat you to dinner and a show.”

And by the dozens they came to the East Las Vegas Community center off Eastern and the 95 freeway, many escorted by friends, or their under-90 kids, including one “young” lady who proudly told me:

“I’m 101 now!”

With the un-ironic theme “Vintage Vegas” – and a slide show of hotels-gone-by on a big screen – diners were treated to a menu that included “Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden vegetables,” “Golden Nugget potatoes” and “Sinatra’s stuffed chicken.”

With a couple of their teachers backing them up, students from the Foundation to Assist Young Musicians (FAYM), showed off their skills.

Then it was recognition time. Like the couple that’s been married the longest: 65 years for Clarice and EJ, who said the key is “When she says jump, iIask, ‘How High?'”

The oldest person in the room? Mary Wolfsberger. When asked her secret to longevity, the 106-year-old gave props to her daughter and son-in-law.

And I want to give props to Mo and everyone at the East Las Vegas Community Center, including Cortnee, Lettie & Park&Rec Director Maggie Plaster for making it so fun and easy to host this wonderful event – for the 30th time.
