9 Sweet Children’s Books Written by Your Fave Celebs
Career writers aren’t the only people who put pen to paper (or, rather fingers to keyboard) and create imaginative children’s books. If Marlo Thomas could craft the now-nostalgic (but still entirely relevant) Free To Be You and Me back in the early 1970s, then today’s celebs can get in on the lit for kids action too. If you’re on the hunt to add to your tot’s mini at-home library, you need to check out these celebrity-created picks.
1. Elbow Grease by John Cena ($18): Yes, WWE’s John Cena wrote a children’s book. By now you probably know that Cena is a multi-talented man who can act, wrestle and, now, write. This new picture book is all about how perseverance and belief can get you exactly where you want to go. Now that’s a lesson your kiddo can use.
2. Builder Brothers: Big Plans by Drew Scott and Jonathon Scott ($18): You may know them as the Property Brothers, but now Drew and Jonathan Scott are children’s book authors too. Not so surprisingly, this pint-sized read focuses on building, and it even comes with a DIY building project for your child to create.
3. Princesses Save the World by Savannah Guthrie & Allison Oppenheim ($18): The Today Show co-host returns with a sequel to her bestseller Princesses Wear Pants. In this second title, Princess Penelope Pineapple has to help Princess Sabrina Strawberry to find her bees and save the world. Think girl power for the preschool set.
4. Corduroy Takes a Bow by Viola Davis ($18): Academy Award-winner Viola Davis has penned a new story based on the iconic childhood favorite. You probably remember the adorable little bear from your own younger days, and now you can read Davis’ version to your own tot.
5. I’ve Loved You Since Forever by Hoda Kotb ($19): Savannah Guthrie doesn’t have the market cornered on Today Show co-hosts who write children’s books. New-ish mom Kotb’s sweet tale is a lyrical look into the love of parents and children.
6. Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters by Barack Obama ($18): Even though this isn’t exactly a new title, it’s a can’t-miss read that you’ll want to pick up. Former President Obama writes a letter to his daughters about the ideals that have shaped America. It’s moving, it’s meaningful, and it’s everything your kids should hear.
7. Girls Hold Up This World by Jada Pinkett Smith ($8): It may have been more than a decade since Pinkett Smith wrote this children’s book, but it’s still just right for your pint-sized reader. Pinkett Smith’s poem is about the power of girls — it’s empowering and an awesomely amazing read.
8. Everything Is Mama by Jimmy Fallon ($17): The Tonight Show host wants to help your tot learn new words aplenty with this cute, comical children’s book. The follow-up to Fallon’s Your Baby’s First Word Will Be DADA will make you and your little one giggle.
9. Start Now!: You Can Make a Difference by Chelsea Clinton ($17): An early start to activism in an educated way is always welcome. The former first daughter gives readers the chance to learn about handling problems, from the minor to the major, in this pick for older children.
