9-Year-Old Boy and Family Fighting to Keep His Emotional Support Pig

He'll be just devastated if Ginger has to go.

Emotional Support Animals (ESA) provide therapeutic benefits for a person with mental health or psychiatric disability. Any animal can be considered an ESA if registered. And surprisingly, about 32% of all pets in the United States are registered as emotional support animals. That's way more than we ever expected!

ESAs truly help people, but unfortunately, one little boy in Kansas is facing the possibility of losing his ESA. His family has until the end of the month to figure out what to do with his pot-bellied pig, which is an ESA, the tweet from @kwtx says. Follow the link to read the full story.

Ugh, this breaks our hearts. The Newton Police Department received an anonymous complaint about the pig, according to the KWTX News 10 article. The pot-bellied pig does go against an ordinance in Newton, but that's not going to stop this boy's mother from fighting.

"I just decided that Owen’s come so far in regards to his anxiety and depression that I was going to have to find a way to fight it because I just couldn’t do that to my son and have his mental health go back,” Jessica Grigoreva, the boy's mother, said in the article. She plans on being at the next city commissioner meeting to advocate for her son.

We can't even imagine how hard this must be for Owen. He said this pig has helped him feel so much better and that he's afraid he's going to lose his best friend. We truly hope Owen and Ginger get to stay together forever!
