9-Month-Old Maine Coon Kitten Is So Big She Rivals Mom's Size

The kitten phase goes by so fast. One minute you're bringing your kitty home from the shelter and then BOOM — they're a full-grown cat. Well one woman in California has been shocked by how fast her kitten has grown since bringing her home. In fact, the Maine Coon Cat is almost as big as her human.

Maine Coon Cats are known for being big, but this was definitely eye-opening.

The woman shared her large kitty in a video online. The cat is only 9 months old, but she is massive. When her owner picked her up she looked pretty big, but then she stretched the cat out — she was huge. She then picked the cat up and held it in front of her body. Just sitting on its hind legs, the cat went down to her mama's waist.

People in the comments section were obsessed with the extra-large kitty. "Awwwww lucky she’s beautiful," wrote one person. "She's GORGEOUS," someone else added. "She is beautiful!" another commenter gushed.

How Big Are Maine Coon Cats?

Obviously this cat is a little on the larger side, but for Maine Coon Cats she's actually somewhat normal. Maine Coons can be larger than normal cats. They're sort of known for being one of the longest domestic cats out there. In fact, in 2015 a Maine Coon Cat named "Ludo" from England won the title of World's Longest Cat.

That doesn't mean they're the biggest cats out there, however. There are several breeds of cats that are taller or typically weigh more than Maine Coon Cats. Male Maine Coon Cats tend to weigh between 18 and 22 pounds when they're fully grown. While females tend to weigh anywhere from 12 to 15 pounds.

Height-wise, again they aren't the tallest cats. But they are certainly taller than many other breeds. Maine Coon Cats generally vary in height, but usually are around 10 to 16 inches tall.

Where Maine Coon Cats shine are their length. Another record-breaking Maine Coon Cat named Stewie broke the world record at 48.5 inches from the tip of his nose to the end of its tail.

Maine Coon Cats are also pretty hairy critters. Unlike domestic shorthairs, Maine Coon Cats have ample fur that is long just like their bodies. Their fur tends to be silky and smooth. Maine Coon Cats come in a variety of colors and patterns. Some Maine Coons are solid white, while others are cream, red, blue, and black. They also come as tabby, bi-color, particolor, tortoiseshell, shaded, and calico patterns. The hair makes the cat seem to be even larger than they are. So no matter how you look at it, these cats are simply ginormous. But that just means there's more of them to love.
