The 9 Biggest Fall 2023 Runway Trends From Paris Fashion Week

They build on — and even elevate — some of the trends we saw in New York, London and Milan.

Paris Fashion Week was filled with considered Fall 2023 collections that feel true to each individual brand's ethos, while also aligning on a few key sartorial themes.

Building on — and even elevating — some of the trends we saw in New York, London and Milan, Paris designers favored cocoon-like cover-ups and statement shoulders. Conversely, they weren't afraid to show a little skin, with micro bikini tops and bikini-bottoms-as-pants also proving to be popular.

Keep scrolling to catch up on all the biggest Fall 2023 trends we spotted during Paris Fashion Week.

Clothes to Cocoon in

Designers are predicting a cold front this fall, offering abundant ways to bundle up when the temperatures drop, from Loewe's ultra-oversized cozy cardigans to Miu Miu's bulky (but cool) layering to Saint Laurent's elegant oversized shoulder wraps.

Itty Bitty Bikini Tops

On the opposite end of the coverage spectrum were these tiny tops, a continuation of the creative boob decor we've been seeing on runways since New York.

... and Bottoms

If you'd rather show off your legs than your torso, labels like Miu Miu and Vivienne Westwood offered plenty of options for that, too. It's further evidence that, in 2023, pants are purely optional.

It's Giving Shoulder

Designers seemingly took all the extra fabric left over from those underwear-as-outerwear garments and added them to the shoulders of others. There were the '80s-inspired blazer shoulder pads at Saint Laurent, artfully sculpted shoulder details at Alexander McQueen and more.

Sheer Base

Show some skin without going entirely bottomless with the delicate sheer skirting seen at Cecilie Bahnsen, Givenchy, Miu Miu and more.

Knits on the Verge

At shows like Acne, Off-White and Chloé, knitwear looked as it if had been through a lot: shredded, tie-dyed and warped into unexpected silhouettes.

Smock It Up

Smocking details on dresses and skirts have never looked so romantic and luxe, thanks to labels like Roísín Pierce and Ester Manas.

Baby Spice Pink

Don't worry, millennial pink isn't back (yet), but designers did find interesting ways to make youthful shades of pink feel grown-up — and even a little sexy.

Punch Hole Cutouts

Brands like Chloé and Courrèges incorporated very precise, round cut-outs into their collections that just make you want to give the wearer a little poke and say, "Boop!"
