We love collecting fun spices and infused olive oils to keep our kitchen well stocked, but the reality is that there’s a lot more than ingredients needed to keep a kitchen running. We need great appliances and utensils too, of course. But we also need to have the right tools to keep everything looking neat and tidy for as long as possible.
Costco is now offering Swedish dishcloths that come in a pack of 12 for $9. They are both washable and reusable, making them a stylish way to stay sustainable while keeping your kitchen clean. These Frank Lloyd Wright Swedish dish towels (which are also available online at a slightly higher price point), come in a variety of fun patterns and are prime for sharing or gifting.
Swedish dishcloths feel like a sponge and tea towel hybrid, and are a household workhorse because they can clean just about anything. They are made of 70 percent cellulose and 30 percent cotton, and can be dampened or rinsed with water and left out to dry when ready to clean and reuse. Or you can just toss them in the washing machine or dishwasher to make life even easier.
After @costcohotfinds posted about these dishcloths on Instagram, her followers were excited to share how they use them. Sepid.wonder said, “I clean my whole house with these. So useful…. Stove, appliances, fridge, countertops, wood, metal… cleans everything … we barely used paper towels anymore.” While jjasmine_ssingh shared, “These are very common in India and we use them to wipe the shelves and clean up spills.”
Swedish dishcloths have a fun history. Legend has it they were invented by a Swedish engineer in 1949, with the goal of being affordable and long-lasting while also reusable and biodegradable. This alternative to paper towels is meant to be eco-friendly and sustainable in the same way people are trying to switch out plastic bags for reusable ones or plastic straws for paper ones. Aside from being kinder to the environment they are known to do a great job at cleaning and last — which is a lot more than we can say for a lot of other things in our kitchen!
