8-year-old who had his beloved foam finger stolen at game meets basketball players from his favorite team

An 8-year-old North Carolina State basketball superfan was left in tears after his beloved foam finger was stolen at a game — which he attended for his birthday.

Jacob Snyder was at the Tuesday night game, which had the Wolfpack defeating St. Peter’s, when he realized his foam finger was missing.

“His aunt first gave that to him when he was 2 years old and she was a student at NC State. She’s since graduated and moved to Scotland, and the two are very close,” Emily Drain, Jacob’s mother, told WTVD. On top of being a keepsake from his aunt, it included signatures from a number of NC State football and basketball stars and football coach Dave Doeren.

The family instantly began their search for the souvenir and stopped at all the locations they visited throughout the evening. Eventually, they ran into a security guard who gave them terrible news.

I sincerely hope that they’re wrong, but a security guard said he saw someone walk off with Jake’s very special foam finger,” Drain wrote on Facebook. “He is the biggest NCSU fan (and according to him, a future NSCU student) and has brought it to every game and event we’ve been to. Despite the excitement of winning the game tonight, he left PNC arena in tears.”

Members of the guest relations team wanted to make this right and helped set up a meet-and-greet with two Wolfpack players.

“That was extremely helpful. It didn’t fix the entire situation, but at least it did show there are good people trying to help him,” Drain said.

But the kindness didn’t end there. On Facebook, people offered to share the photo on the NCSU student page in hopes of tracking down a foam finger similar to Jacob’s.

We already have an NCSU student who has the exact same foam finger and he wants to give it to Jake! … It’s good for Jake to see that there are some bad people out there, but many more good people who want to help,” Drain wrote.
