8 things to do in San Diego this weekend

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The time has come for weekend activities and shenanigans. How will you be spending your leisure days?

The good news is San Diego has yet another long lineup markets, music, food pop-ups and more for those looking to have some fun.

From early Earth Day gatherings, art immersions, science expos and beyond, here are eight things to do this weekend:

Rady Children’s Wild Walkabout

This experience takes kids and families on an adventure at the San Diego Zoo before the gates open to the public on Sunday, and then for the remainder of the day. There will be animal encounters, hands-on activities, plus a “Wildlife Explorers Basecamp” celebration. Space is limited so early registration is suggested. The fundraising proceeds will benefit Rady Children’s.

Free ‘Dump Day’ approaching, just in time for spring cleaning

Barrio Logan Science and Art Expo

This annual art, science and cultural fair will take place Saturday at Mercado del Barrio, located at 1900 Main St. Demonstrations will highlight the science behind lowriders, bikes and skateboards, as well as look at science connected to animals and fossils. There will lots of hands-on activities and interactive booths for those of all ages.

San Diego Vegan Festival

Held at Waterfront Park on Saturday, this is a free gathering that will celebrate the vegan lifestyle through food, drinks and goods. The vegan-curious are welcome to join, the event’s organizers noted online. There will also be live speakers discussing vegan business, vegan books and efforts to rescue animals.

South Bay Earth Day

Just south of San Diego, this is the county’s largest Earth Day-related event, according to its organizers. On Saturday, there will be all-day entertainment at Chula Vista Bayfront Park. Those who attended can participate in a tie-dye workshop, a “fix-it-clinic” or browse over items presented by over 50 green vendors. There’s also and artist alley area and a kid zone. The event is free.

The Rolando Street Fair

Located on the historic tree-lined street of Rolando Boulevard, the San Diego event has a full lineup of music performances, including the Euphoria Brass Band and School of Rock. There will be inflatables for the kids, an array of craft breweries pouring pints of beer, over 100 vendor booths and lots of food trucks.

San Diego Made Spring Market

Over 120 local curated makers will join forces Saturday at the downtown La Mesa Village, providing many options for shoppers. There will also be craft stations, photo booths, live art and music, giveaways, along with a variety of food and drinks to be enjoyed. There will also creative workshops for kids and adults.

Seven Seas Food Festival

Happening both Saturday and Sunday at SeaWorld Sea Diego, this foodie event will have tons of bites inspired by Asian, Mexican, German and Mediterranean cuisines. For entertainment, guests can expect to see Polynesian fire knife dancers, taiko drummers and lion dance performers. The park is offering a Seven Seas sampler containing 10 items starting at $70.

Taste of Hillcrest

Happening Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., 25 local restaurants in Hillcrest are participating in this event made for foodies. Get your tickets while they last. They include samples at each of spot, including drink samples for those over the age of 21. Event organizers described it as “a flavor-packed journey through Hillcrest.”
