Standing at only 5'2", I love a good pair of high heels. But, what I don't love is the foot pain, scrapes and blisters that can come from wearing them. Over the last year, however, while trading in my heels for sneakers to train for my first marathon, I learned a simple trick for making shoes (including my coveted heels) much more comfortable. The secret: Use Body Glide.

Body Glide Anti-Chafe Balm is used by athletes, especially runners who train for hours on end, to prevent chafing under arms, between thighs, under an exercise belt or wherever skin may be rubbed repeatedly. Personally, I started using it on the arches of my feet to prevent blisters. Then post-marathon, when my training schedule calmed down and I started to wear pumps more often, I realized I could use it on my heels, arches, the tops of my toes and wherever else I needed to keep my feet pristine — and it worked!

Before putting on a pair of shoes, I apply the Body Glide (which looks like a stick of deodorant) and slip on my heels. There's no uncomfortable slipping or rubbing, and the stick is small enough that if I need to apply more later in the day, I can take it with me on the go. It's especially great for strappy heels and sandals in the summer.

Body Glide is nothing new and there are tons of copycats. However, the company was founded in the '90s by surfers in California and is used today by swimmers, runners, hikers, surfers and more. According to its product description, it's fragrance-free and made with allergen-free, plant-based ingredients (yes, it's vegan!) and is even safe for children. Its texture is slick, but not messy like a cream or an oil, and the formula is clear, so it won't damage your clothes or shoes.

Body Glide has a few formulas, each designed for different activities, but the original is a pretty solid buy. If you want to get more specific to your needs, however, they also have a Foot Glide Anti-Blister Balm that has added Vitamin A and Vitamin C to help soften the skin and prevent inflammation.

Of course, if you also need a little extra cushioning at the ball of your feet to make your favorite heels more wearable, you can pair the glide with Amazon's best-selling Walkize Ball of Foot Cushions. The inserts are small and come in nude, white and black, and have nearly 2,000 5-star ratings.
