8 Pieces From Nordstrom's Half-Yearly Sale I Snatched Up Immediately

With close to 20 years in the fashion industry, I’ve not only seen it all—but also know how to parse through the endless sea of stuff. What’s worth buying? What’s not? In Self Checkout, you’ll find my highly specific recommendations with a few picks from my most knowledgeable, stylish friends.
Nordstrom has kicked off its Half Yearly Sale, which means there are pages and pages of marked down items worth shopping. I’ve done just a bit of the grunt work for you, though, and found 10 things I think are worth noting. This is also the perfect time to pick up some items to wear for work (getting dressed for the office in hot weather is a delicate waltz) and also to save for the fall (the best shoppers know you don’t have to shop in-season).
Jenny Bird Balloon Link Hoop Earrings (Were $110)
If you’re in the market for a new pair of everyday hoops, you can’t go wrong with editor-favorite brand Jenny Bird.
3.1 Phillip Lim Denim Wrap Skirt (Was $450)
Now’s the time to grab a knee-length denim skirt if you don’t have one. Pair it with a button-down shirt during the week and a tank top on the weekend.
Alex Mill Pleated High Waist Twill Shorts (Were $135)
As a day one Alex Mill fan, believe me when I recommend these pleated shorts. If you’re anti-jorts (that’s jean shorts, BTW) try these instead.
Amina Muaddi Lupita Metallic Slide Sandal (Were $785)
There are a lot of Amina Muaddi shoes on sale at Nordstrom right now. These caught my eye because I can envision them both with a casual look for drinks with girlfriends and also with a dress for a summer wedding.
Barbour Crowdon Water Resistant Jacket (Was $335)
Travel with this jacket for those randomly chilly (or rainy) days and nights.
Dyson Airstrait™ Hair Straightener (Was $499)
If you’ve had your eye on a Dyson hair tool—run, don’t walk! This one will be sure to sell out ASAP.
Jeffrey Campbell Mesh Mary Jane Flat (Were $145)
Mesh flats are taking over. Here’s an under-$100 way to test drive the trend.
Riedel Vinum Set of 6 Cabernet Glasses (Were $177)
Fun fact: I have loved wine ever since moving to New York in 2007 and even worked part time at a wine store. I’ll never forget that these were our go-to glasses during tastings.
