He told Cigar Aficionado that he grew up in “an environment that was conducive to drugs and gangs and trouble and you just kind of went with the flow. I was always the young guy trying to fit in with the crowd and I was easily influenced. At a very young age I started becoming under the influence but as soon as that reality hit me in the face and I got a clear look of how my life would look in the future if I continued down that path, I wanted to change.”

Wahlberg's breakthrough in the entertainment industry came through his early career as a musician with the hip-hop group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. His charismatic presence and striking looks earned him attention, paving the way for his transition into acting.
