9 Colorful Makeup Ideas Worth Stealing From the Fall 2018 Runway

This season’s runways have welcomed a bevy of beauty trends designed to disrupt, but none more striking—and universally accessible—than the ongoing parade of prismatic eye makeup, each look saturated enough to seep into the collective consciousness. What started in New York with a below-brow, two-tone slash of liner at Jason Wu, followed by Anna Sui’s mod-minded pink and purple statement eyes—a psychedelic ’60s dream executed by Pat McGrath—has escalated into a rainbow revolution, rendering onyx eyeliner and graphite-dusted lids temporarily obsolete.

In Milan, gazes at Prada were encased in vivid geometrics, each futuristic feline bolt finished in a constellation of Swarovski crystals. And rather than allowing that scene-stealing look to bookend the trend, the City of Light has played off a new penchant for color. Brightening swipes of pigment bordered eyes at Dior, a notion echoed by makeup artist Isamaya French for H&M, where lash lines were etched in blue liner that took its cues from Japanese minimalism. Clumpy Day-Glo lashes nearly bold enough to steal the shine from hairstylist Sam McKnight’s pretty in-part feathers allowed Dries Van Noten to up the ante on chromatics, and morph the idea of saturated lashes from camp to unexpectedly aspirational. And to cap off Paris Fashion Week, McGrath etched seductively subversive strikes of color on a handful of the Louis Vuitton girls in punchy shades of cobalt, tangerine, turquoise, and aubergine.

Considering Kim Kardashian West has already translated the buoyant approach from runway to street-ready, it’s safe to say that the time for subdued hues has passed. The best way to welcome spring is with bursts of color primed to draw gazes to your own.
