A "babymoon" is similar to a honeymoon in that it's a special trip with your partner. Though instead of celebrating wedded bliss, a babymoon is focused on spending time together and recharging before having a child. Abbie Synan, advanced travel advisor for Fora Travel and group travel leader at Speck on the Globe Tours, says, “While I think that the concept of a 'babymoon' started as more of a niche type of getaway, the idea has become much more mainstream within the travel sector." Synan adds, "Seeing the rise in wellness trips since 2020, I think babymoons could be classified as less of a straight 'luxury vacation' and more of a health and wellness holiday.”
Ahead, Synan chooses the best luxury babymoon destinations for every type of couple, from low-key rest filled weekends to more action-packed city breaks. She says, “There is truly no wrong way to take a trip to treat yourself before your family grows."
For the City Slickers: London
London never disappoints. This is an ideal city break with multiple Michelin-starred restaurants, fantastic hotels and much to see and do. Synan says, “The U.K. is the ideal destination for a quick city getaway. Direct flights from the U.S. are plentiful, and for east-coasters, in a few short hours you can be setting your watch to Big Ben."
She adds, "For those looking to avoid a language barrier, it's a great option for English speakers." Aim for a posh neighborhood base, like Kensington or Mayfair, for ultimate walkability.
For the Wellness Lovers: Asheville, North Carolina
The South’s worst best-kept secret, Asheville is a super popular babymoon destination. Synan says, “Art and architecture snuggly set in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville is one of those 'second cities' that is really having its moment.”
Babymooners can check out an indulgent oasis, The Spa at the Omni Grove Park Inn, for couples packages, maternity massages, or a “mother-to-be wrap”. Then, make baby’s first ornament at the NC Glass Center, try a grounding sound bath at Skinny Beats, and stock up on clothes from Playdate Goods, an artfully curated kids boutique. Get active with a private yoga and hiking micro retreat with mom-led company Namaste in Nature.
For the Best of the West: Park City, Utah
Fancy ranch-style vacations are here to stay. What boomed as a pandemic-era trend is a full-blown tourism movement. Park City is a posh babymoon spot, perfect for shopping and relaxing in the beautiful nature of the Wasatch Mountains.
Synan adds, “While thoughts of Park City may straight away lean toward a ski destination, there is more than just the slopes or Sundance in this Western Mountain region. Utah resorts offer some of the best spas and dining options, and the town of Park City's historic Main Street offers souvenirs for any visitor, even baby.”
Where To Stay: The Lodge at Blue Sky, Auberge Resorts Collection
For the Ultimate Romantics: Paris
“The quintessential destination for couples, Paris is without question where you can have a babymoon that focuses on the two of you before you welcome a new addition to the family,” says Synan. “Romantic boat rides on the Seine, dining with the Eiffel Tower sparkling in the background at night. Even the ornate and elaborate Gothic architecture in each arrondissement plays a supporting role in the romance effect,” she explains.
Plus, with amazing fine dining spots like Michelin-starred Frenchie, babymooners will enjoy eating their way through the French capital. Be sure to scoop some books for bebe at Shakespeare and Company before you head home!
Where To Stay: Relais Christine
For the Foodies: Chicago
This magical Midwest city is a prime babymoon spot due to great direct flight options, making it perfect for a quick getaway. With a vaunted food scene and a slew of luxe hotels, Chicago is a lovely foodie-meets-luxury destination for babymooners.
Synan adds, “Chicago is the city break destination to fulfill those pregnancy food cravings. With architecture tours, art museums and award-winning restaurants, it's easy to fill both your itinerary and your plate in the windy city." Don’t skip a prenatal massage at the Chuan Spa, one of the world’s finest.
Where to Stay: The Langham Chicago
For the Adventure Seekers: Mount Hood, Oregon
You'll find it all at Mount Hood: hikes, good food, and waterfalls. Synan explains, “The Pacific Northwest is where your outdoor lovers will flock for their pre-baby adventures. Mt. Hood is close enough to fly into Portland, but then less than two hours from the trails. The nature in Oregon is unmatched, and it's a great way to connect before your birth."
Want to experience unmatched Columbia River views without the exertion? Enjoy driving one of the state’s scenic byways; Oregon has more than any other state!
For a Swanky Island Break: Anguilla
“Anguilla has been a topic of discussion for lots of my clients this year. If you're in search of a VIP beach experience, this is the island you're visiting," says Synan. "The Lesser Antilles has some of the best beaches in the Caribbean, so this is the destination choice if you're looking to spoil yourself a little with oceanfront views."
English is the official language of this Commonwealth country, too, so it’s extra easy to navigate.
Where to Stay: Four Seasons Resort Anguilla
For Southern Hospitality: Franklin, Tennessee
Synan adds, “Middle Tennessee might be more famous for Nashville, aka bachelorette party central, but its rolling hills hide a quieter city that’s well worth a babymoon trip.”
Enter Franklin, Nashville’s luxe yet laidback cousin. Listen to live music at Fox & Locke and browse the cute home decor shops and galleries of Leiper’s Fork. Babymooners can also enjoy a wellbeing oasis at the spa at Southall, a new rustic luxe property with a heated mineral pool and wonderful prenatal massages. Southall offers a great way to tap into the unplugged vacation trend too.
