There are many things we know about Eva Longoria; she's Victoria Beckham's BFF, she mixes up a flawless spicy marg and she makes a cracking movie. But most importantly, she knows her beauty.

Since arriving on our screens as Gabrielle Solis in the Noughties most binge-able show, Desperate Housewives, we've been harbouring a girl crush (a massive one, but we're playing it cool here).

Cosmopolitan UK sat down with the L’Oréal Paris Ambassador right before she took the stage at the "Walk Your Worth" show at Paris Fashion Week to discuss all things beauty.

From her best beauty moments to the look she'd rather forget, Eva revealed all her wisdom, and we took notes. Wisteria Lane, here we come.

You can't depend on beauty

"I'm really cliche, but I think beauty comes from within. I think there's nothing more beautiful than when a confident, smart, secure woman walks into the room.

My mum taught me that, so even though I grew up as the ugly duckling of my family, I didn't have a bad relationship with beauty. What it taught me was don't depend on it. I knew I was going to be the smart one, I knew I was going to be the funny one, so even though I'm on the 'Most Beautiful List' or an Ambassador for L’Oréal, it doesn't solely define me".

Mascara makes all the difference

"I always have mascara in my bag. Even if I'm tired or don't have a face on, if I just put L’Oréal Paris' Telescopic Mascara (£11.99) on it just brightens and my whole face changes."

Avoid red lipstick if you're a mum

"I'm constantly kissing and hugging my son, so I think that's why I go for a more natural look. I don't really wear a red lip when I'm with my son because if not, it's gonna get all over him.

My beauty routine is definitely more efficient because I have a son. My beauty and makeup routine can't take a long time, I've got to get on with my day."

Beauty is in its best beauty era... right now

"My favourite beauty era is right now. I'm going through a very natural phase; I love less makeup and less styling on the hair. I'm from Texas, so I've been through many phases of lots of makeup and then being on red carpets, with up-dos and hair extensions – I'm kind of done with it all now. I'm into more 'no makeup makeup', which is actually harder to do..."

Makeup is a time capsule

"My mom has always worn red lipstick. I remember when I was little, I would use her lipstick as a crayon on the wall; I'd use it on my cheeks and on my eyes – I thought it was a magic stick.

It had a particularly beautiful scent to it. So, every time I open one of L’Oréal Paris' Color Riche Satin Lipsticks (£8.99) it just takes me back immediately to my childhood my mom."

Blue eyeshadow is a no-go area

"There are many, many beauty looks I would never do again, but I think wearing blue eyeshadow was my worst."

We should all have a girl crush on Salma Hayek

"Salma Hayek is one of my biggest beauty icons. I just think she's stunning. I always look to Sophia Loren and Brigitte Bardot as beauty references too – a lot of good eye makeup."

If you're stuck on a desert island, take...

"I'd have to take my sunblock, mascara and lip balm."
