The 75th Annual Cannes Film Festival Comes to a Close: See the Highlights

There's been much talk that the dirty martini is the millennial drink of 2022, but at this year's Cannes Film Festival, which wrapped up last night, the cocktail of every grand fete was the negroni.

Campari was the official partner of the festival on its 75th anniversary and hosted the after party for the premiere of the Baz Luhrmann film Elvis, where Harper's BAZAAR was among a guest list of today's biggest names in entertainment, including Tom Hanks, Austin Butler, Olivia DeJonge, Kaia Gerber, Shakira, Ricky Martin, and Sharon Stone.

On May 25th, the first screening of Elvis took place at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, ending in a standing ovation from the star-studded crowd and words of praise from members of the cast, who sat front row in the theater. Following the premiere, celebrity attendees, including Andie Macdowell and Winnie Harlow—in a strapless cream ballgown by Off-White—retired to the Campari lounge on the top floor of the Palais, where hors d'oeuvres and a light dinner were served, along with drinks such as Campari's take on the spritz, and the "Campari Red Carpet," crafted with Campari, tequila, sherry, and vermouth, and created specifically for the film festival. In the days prior, the lounge also hosted actors Julianne Moore, Jeremy Strong, and Anne Hathaway, among others.

That night, the Côte d'Azur beach was bright red—the color of Campari—as guests in their black-tie ensembles (men in sharp tuxedos and women in dreamy floor-length ballgowns, often with seemingly-endless trains and dramatic necklines) walked from the red carpet to the ocean-front stage, where Italian rock band Måneskin and America DJ Diplo played into the morning.

Earlier in the week, on May 18th, Top Gun: Maverick premiered at the Palais, earning Tom Cruise a Palme d’Or. The event and after party were attended by star guests, including Prince William and Duchess Kate, as well as the film's cast. Miles Teller, who starred in the film with Cruise, spoke to BAZAAR.com about his experience at the festival, and how he managed to make the notoriously strict red-carpet dress code his own.

Three days later, Campari hosted the French Riviera's biggest party of the month, in honor of their partnership with the Cannes Film Festival. Below strings of red-tinted disco balls, in the heart of La Croisette, danced Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramírez and Colombian-Spanish actress Juana Acosta, among many others.

And last night, the apéritif brand wrapped up the glitzy two-week festival with the premiere of Swedish director Ruben Ostlund's Triangle of Sadness, which took home the Palme d'Or. Following late-night celebrations scattered across Cannes' beach-front restaurants and event spaces, Palais Stéphanie Beach turned off its lights and the Marriott and Le Majestic hotels, outside which crowds of fans and photographers had gathered for days, rolled up their red carpets—until next year.
