Murphy Wilson and Lucinda Myers went viral in late June when Wilson’s daughter posted their engagement photos on Instagram, winning hearts over throughout the internet. Now, just over a month after the couple first spoke to Yahoo Style, the 70-year-old man and his 67-year-old love are husband and wife.
In a ceremony that took place on July 29, the two tied the knot at the First Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Huntsville, Ala., where their love story started. Surrounded by friends and family, including their combined 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Wilson’s daughter and wedding planner, Danita Jones, says “the wedding was so warm and elegant.”
“Four amazing singers, a singing group, and a cellist were the precursor that brought in the bridal party. And singer Brian Ezra Bates sang ‘Nothing Without You‘ as the bride came down the aisle, escorted by her son-in-law Rodney Whitlow,” Jones tells Yahoo Style. “The groom was so mesmerized he forgot to go get her.”
The moment was one of many captured by photographer Gianna Snell, who’s had the pleasure of photographing the couple throughout the momentous months.
The event put together by both Jones and the groom’s other daughter, Gina Woods, through Productions by Danita Jones, moved from the church to a smaller party after Wilson and Murphy shared a memorable smooch.
“The kiss was one for the ages, and by the end had the entire church erupting into cheers. It lasted almost 90 seconds,” Jones says, recalling that the couple even said they forgot everyone was there.
Although this is the second marriage for both the bride and the groom, the two know that they share a significant and special love.
“This is one of the greatest days of my life,” Myers told family at the reception, “to be able to marry the love of my life.”
