7 Things You Need To Know Before Eating Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

From Delish

I am of the firm belief that there is literally no better combination in this world than peanut butter and chocolate. (Sorry, jelly, you're cool and all, but PB&C is where it's at). So obviously, that makes Reese's probably the greatest candy of all time. From cups, to big cups, to pieces, to some questionable looking Christmas trees (last year was a black mark on their otherwise flawless record. Don't hold it against them, k?), Reese's never fails to give us every possible amazing way to combine chocolate and peanut butter in candy form, so before you tear into another one of those orange wrappers, here's a few things you need to know about them.

1. Reese's Were Created By A Hershey's Employee

Harry Burnett Reese got his start working at one of the Hershey Chocolate Company's dairy farms before quitting his job to start his own candy company, the H.B. Reese Candy Company. Though his early products were popular, arguably his most successful venture was launched in 1928, when he created the now infamous peanut butter cup.

This may come as a shock, but they weren't always called Peanut Butter Cups. The original name of the chocolate coated peanut butter candy was "penny cups," because they only cost one cent in the 1930's. Two dollar cups somehow just doesn't have that same ring to it.

3. Hershey's Brought Them Back Home

Shortly after Harry Reese passed away, Hershey's acquired the H.B. Reese Candy Company, and the Peanut Butter Cups eventually became their bestselling offering. Smart biz move, guys.

4. There's A Ton Of Variations

Reese's Peanut Butter Cups has over 20 variations sold as limited edition cups during holidays such as Christmas, Halloween, and Valentine's Day. And we all know what happened with those trees last year...

5. They Make An Insane Amount Of Peanut Butter Cups

The demand for the candy is so high that Reese's makes enough Peanut Butter Cups in one year to feed one to every person in the USA, Japan, Europe, Australia, China, Africa, and India. BRB, reevaluating how many of those I personally consume on a weekly basis.

6. It Has Its Own Holiday

The candy is so loved, that there's now an official holiday, 'I Love Reese's Day,' on May 18.
