You don't need to devote an entire day to spring cleaning tasks to get your home into tip-top shape. Professional cleaning and organizing experts swear by the following seven chores that will have your space looking much more refreshed in just a matter of minutes. So go ahead and spend a small chunk of your time this weekend giving your sock drawer a good clean out or finally dealing with that overwhelming pile of mail.

Below, we've highlighted seven small cleaning tasks that will still make a major impact without consuming all of your precious free time.

Sort Your Sock Drawer

If you can never seem to locate a matching pair of socks without having to rummage through your drawer, it's time for an overhaul.

"Take some time to get rid of the singles (today is the day), match and ball up pairs, and throw away any pairs with holes," Tova Weinstock, a professional organizer and founder of Tidy Tova, says. "You'll instantly feel like a more mature adult."

Deal With All of Those Cords

Cords and chargers are an inevitable part of 21st-century life. However, if jumbles of wires are taking over a bin or drawer, it's time to go through and sort everything neatly. Anna Bauer, professional organizer and founder of Sorted & Co., recommends using binder clips to keep cords from getting tangled when not in use.

"You can take it a step further by writing on a piece of tape what the wire is and placing it on the black or metal part of the binder clip," she says.

Recycle Junk Mail

If piles of unneeded catalogs and fliers are cluttering up your entryway or countertops, go ahead and spend a bit of time tackling that mess.

"Consider it some low-hanging fruit that will pave the way for a more thorough sorting and then dealing with mail that requires action," Weinstock says.

Corral Your Cleaning Supplies

Don't let your essential cleaning supplies turn into clutter. To keep things like brooms easily accessible yet out of the way, Bauer relies on Command hooks. Bauer explains how they're an affordable way to get items off the floor and onto the wall.

"It will create more floor space and ensure each one has a designated area," Bauer says.

Throw Away Broken Toys

If your home is full of toys that are beyond repair, take a chunk of time to part ways with these items for good.

"Children deserve a serene, easy-to-navigate playroom, and getting rid of broken toys is the first step in getting there," Weinstock says. Weinstock suggests doing a quick look over and discarding any toys that are no longer usable.

"You'll be surprised how instantly better you feel," Weinstock says.

Clean the Floors

Although now may not necessarily be the time to take on a major deep cleaning of your floors, you can still make an effort to pick up piles of clutter that have been scattered throughout various rooms.

"Your guests will not feel welcome if they have to maneuver around piles of dog toys and children’s crafts strewn all over the floor," Kathy Cohoon, a cleaning expert at Two Maids and a Mop, says.

Wipe Down Drawers

The drawers in your closet that house everyday accessories may be in need of a thorough cleaning. Bauer recommends taking everything out of a given drawer and then wiping down the inside with a paper towel. Then, use a hand vacuum to catch any dirt still lingering inside.

"Knowing that a drawer is not only organized but is no longer home to dirt and grime is the cherry on top of keeping your fave pieces looking great for years to come," she says.

Declutter Your Countertops

If you feel as though you can barely brew a cup of coffee because your kitchen countertops are filled with so many different items and appliances, you will want to make it a priority to declutter this area.

"Making sure your countertops and tables are clear will make the entire room feel bigger and brighter," Cohoon says, adding that this will make entertaining a breeze as well.
