Wintertime is coming in fast. Fall festivals are wrapping up as Halloween decorations are put back into storage until next year. With summer and fall fading away, many travelers are looking for fun and adventure during the cold winter months, so it’s the perfect time to visit a ski resort.

According to the National Ski Areas Association, Black Americans only make up 1.5 percent of skiers at resorts. However, many Black ski-enthusiasts groups like Mount Noire and Black Ski are changing that narrative. Travelers can experience their own snow adventure by checking out these 7 ski resorts this winter.

Grand Targhee Resort – Wyoming

Located in Alta, Grand Targhee Resort is a year-round ski oasis. The resort is an hour from Jackson Hole and offers a wide variety of snow activities during the winter. The perfect destination for mountain skiing, the resort sits in the middle of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. There are beautiful ski runs going through the Teton Mountains and different slopes for beginners, intermediate and advanced riders. Overflowing with deep, white powder, Grand Targhee is a winter wonderland every year.

Breckenridge Ski Resort – Colorado

Breckenridge is super popular for skiers due to it having one of the highest altitudes in North America. It makes for incredible snow quality on over 139 kilometers of slopes. The award-winning resort has a 22-foot superpipe and 4 terrain parks for visitors to explore. There’s also plenty to see beyond the resort in Breckenridge including stellar restaurants, shops, and other outdoor activities. Keep in mind that Breckenridge isn’t the place to go for beginners. The resort was ranked as one of the most difficult in the country.

Summit At Snoqualmie – Washington

If you’re looking for snow fun near Seattle, then look no further than the Summit At Snoqualmie. Many travelers know the Summit as a bike park. However, the resort also offers ski experiences on four different slopes. This ski resort is also known for its nighttime skiing adventures. All 600 acres come alive with lights against the dark sky as skiers enjoy live music and snow fun.

Hidden Valley Ski Resort – Missouri

Right outside of St. Louis, Hidden Valley Ski Resort is a great option for Midwest skiers. The resort is only open during the winter season and offers skiing, lift rides, and tubing. Hidden Valley has two terrain parks for skiers with plenty of jumps and rails. The resort also offers lessons to children and adults who want to learn how to ski. Hidden Valley opens in Missouri around the end of December.

Stowe Mountain Resort – Vermont

A place described as life-affirming, Stowe Mountain Resort sits at the highest altitude in Virginia. There’s a ton of terrains with different difficulty levels and it’s right down the street from local nightlife in downtown Stowe. Located in the heart of Mount Mansfield, Stowe Mountain caters to beginner and intermediate skiers while still providing family-friendly spots to enjoy the snow.

Steamboat Springs – Colorado

Steamboat Springs is one of the most family-friendly and expensive ski resorts in the US. Kids under age 12 ski for free when parents buy a 5-day pass. There are over 2,900 acres to explore and a snowboard school for children interested in learning a new way to tour the snow. The resort is also near Old Hot Springs where families can relax in the natural springs and enjoy giant waterfalls.

Park City Mountain Resort – Utah

The Utah ski resort is known for snowboarding and attracts travelers, locals, and Olympians like Shaun White, Torah Bright, and breakout star Sage Kotsenburg. Park Mountain has slopes for kids and adults. There are over 330 trails for skiing and snowboarding across 7,300 acres of Utah terrain.
