It might still be August, but summer is slowly starting to take its place in the rear view mirror. That’s right, we’ve arrived at the point of the season where oppressive heat waves are causing our minds to wander toward more soothing thoughts such as the sound of crunching leaves beneath our shoes, the inviting smell of warm chai tea lattes, and best of all, the many fall ensembles that will soon be filling our wardrobes to the brim. Perhaps you already own timeless staples like an unwavering leather jacket or a a sturdy pair of boots. But what about the new fall trends that you might not necessarily have yet? Well, let us introduce them to you.

Here to give us the fall fashion forecast is stylist and jewelry designer Carla Rockmore. Nicknamed the "Carrie Bradshaw of TikTok," Rockmore has a following of about 1.2 million on the Gen Z-approved social media platform, garnering attention for her vibrant sense of style and distinctive fashion advice. Ahead, the top 7 fashion trends to try for fall, according to one of the most stylish women in the game.

Big Shoulders

“We are finally getting used to the padded shoulders no one could live without in the 80’s," says Rockmore. "The linebacker silhouette is incredibly flattering, it’s like a strong structural scaffold." Needless to say, padded shoulders— especially in the form of a blazer— are must-haves when it comes to upgrading your closet for fall. And according to Rockmore, big shoulders pair exceptionally well with wide leg, floor-grazing pants.

Floor-grazing Hemlines

“The Maxi skirt is the obvious antidote to the belt resembling micro mini skirts of summer." says Rockmore. And it seems as though this trend is giving us a major blast from the past: "A long hemline skirt with the new chunky funky knitwear and a pair of platform combat boots is a 90’s revisit and I’m oh so ready for it.”

Bold Platforms

“What can I say, I get weak in the knees for these sky high babies, and that’s primarily because I don’t get weak in the ankles like I do in stilettos." So why choose a platform shoe this fall? Well for one, platform shoes have the ability to ground your look, while providing a sense of confidence and power. "The stomp you adopt with a good platform has a skip in its step."

Knitwear You'll Want to Pet

“Angora and Mohair—you either love it or you hate it. Either way, you will be petting it at numerous retailers this fall." says Rockmore. Well this season, we're choosing to love the irresistible fuzzy fabrics because why not add a bit of texture to our wardrobe? "I can’t help but stroke the soft and fluffy cuddly confections, even if they do end up in my lipstick," Rockmore adds. If you're wondering how you should wear this type of knitwear, Rockmore suggest pairing Angora and Mohair textures with buttery soft leathers and crunchy taffetas, "for tactile elegance at its finest.”

Sequins and Shimmer

When you think of ensembles that sparkle, evening-wear is most likely the first thing that comes to mind, right? But Rockmore urges you to step outside of the box a bit: “Do me a favor and try it for day, don’t just save the sparkly sensations for night alone," she says. "Choose a simple silhouette like a blazer or slip dress and pair them with trainers and oversized denim. The super cool shine will light up the dark days of winter, and give your tried and true basics a little more life.”

Corsetry With a Twist

A corset's origin in the timeline of fashion extends back through centuries, and although it's making its way into 2022, we're giving it a modern twist. “ Whether in harness style corset belts that can be applied to all of your oversized shirting, or an actual boned corset sewn into your blazer, you will be sure to find an iteration that speaks to you.”

The Evolved Crisp White Shirt

According to Rockmore, one of the most creative trends for fall is the evolution of the crisp white shirt. "From exaggerated collars to dramatic draping, the hybrid white shirt is sure to be the season’s hero. Anything that turns a classic on its head is a keeper for me.”
