Snowpiercer (2013)
This dark, dirty sci-fi is probably the grittiest film Evans has had to chew on and about as far removed aesthetically from the stars and stripes as possible. Set in a dystopian future in which the entire remnants of the human race live aboard a constantly moving train, Snowpiercer gives the actor a chance to be truly moody as Curtis Everett, a revolutionary trying to travel from the impoverished back car to the wealthy head of the train.
Sunshine (2007)
Attempting to save the world yet again, Evans travels with a team of astronauts to a dying sun, hoping to somehow reignite the fading star. It's an existential threat much worse than Thanos snapping his fingers and perhaps one of the best sci-fi films of the 2000s. Also worth the watch just for Cillian Murphy's mane.
The Losers (2010)
Oh, what a different world we could have lived in. Evans filmed this adaptation of the Vertigo comic series right before the first Captain America film. Somewhere, there's an alternate universe where the star is best known as Cpt. Jake Jenson, an awkward, bespectacled computer hacker who easily steals this less-than-good film with a killer rendition of Journey's "Don't Stop Believing."
Not Another Teen Movie (2001)
Oh, how things change. Thanks to this genuinely delightful 2001 teen-comedy send-up, the original image most audiences had of Chris Evans for years was not the red-white-and-blue, but naked, covered in whipped cream. But if Not Another Teen Movie proved anything, it's that Evans has actual comedic chops, and his post-Marvel slate could easily be funny as hell.
Cellular (2004)
Evans plays Ryan, who receives a random phone call from a woman who has been kidnapped (by Jason Statham, no less). It's a simple plot for what turns into a genuinely fun thriller, once again carried Captain America-like on the shoulders of its leading man.
Push (2009)
Not quite a comic book movie, 2009's Push nevertheless follows a group of young mutants on the run from a corrupt government (shut-up, they're not the X-Men). Watching Chris Evans move stuff with his mind is kind of fun, as is his older bro dynamic with young co-star Dakota Fanning.
The Perfect Score (2004)
This 2004 high-school heist film also doubles as the first time Evans would co-star across Scarlett Johansson. So if you're really jonesing for more Marvel content, it's very easy to pretend this movie is about a young Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff teaming up to steal the answers to the SATs.
